Tilley Clothing Update

Thought we should give you an update on how we're doing with our Tilley clothing. We've now had our hats, socks, and underwear for over a year, so lets start with them first.

Around this time last year, one of Ruth's socks got a hole in it. Just a small one, and we think that she snagged it on something. The hole hasn't become any larger, and the socks are not showing any signs of wearing out.

Tilley travel socks are guaranteed not to have a hole for three years. I like to test these theories when I have a product, so I made sure to wear my pair of socks as often as possible. And because they dry air overnight I was often able to wash them the evening before, and wear them again the next day. I didn't keep track, but I bet I have worn this pair of socks for well over 200 days.

Both socks have become thin in the heel, and one has actually developed a hole.

After one year and two months of heavy use!

I'd say that's not bad. I know the guarantee is for three years, but I think they would last the average buyer that amount of time. Pretty sure not many people would put them through what I did as a normal course of wear and tear!

I love my Tilley underwear! Just wanted to say so with emphasis. I have two pairs of the Coolmax Boxers and I wear one pair every day. In fact, I only own those two pairs of underwear! I love the material, and you can hand wash them and they dry overnight.

By the way, those underwear are currently on sale for $22.40 on Tilley's Canadian website.

Ruth also likes her underwear. Says they are totally comfortable, not showing any signs of wear, and would not hesitate to buy them. Apparently Tilley makes a decent pair of underwear!

Regarding the clothing we received in September, we'll be doing some updates over the next few months to let you know how they're holding out. For now, I wanted to show you our favorite items.

For me, I love my Plaid Tech Shirt.

I like the feel of the material. And it's so lightweight and it hand washes and dries so easily. I love this shirt.

Ruth likes her Venture Trek Roll up Pants. She says they're comfortable, water repellent, and they dry overnight.

And, she gets lots of positive comments about her flowered blouse!

We'll be posting a few more reviews of the rest of our clothing over the coming months. Stay tuned!

  1. Lightweight, non-wrinkle, quick dry travel clothes can make or break a longterm vacation (especially if a carry-on is IT) and while we don't own any Tilley clothing, we may just give them a try. when we return to Canada. Thanks for the evaluation and update, and I agree when you said few people would give these Tilley line of clothes such a workout!

    1. Yep, we have certainly given the clothes a workout these past two months. We spend almost 5 weeks hand washing our clothes, and having lightweight material really makes this job much easier!

  2. Bought my Tilley hat in Toronto in 1985. It's still going strong and looking great. Washes up nice in the laundry too.

    1. Thanks for the vote of confidence there Paul and Marti but I think I am a little past the age for modeling Victoria Secret products unless they have a pair of winter onesies! :-p

  5. Nice ad for Tilley. I think it's great that they have real people, real honest people to test out their products. I am much more likely to buy Tilley knowing that you like what you have tried.

    1. Have to admit when we looked at the price we sort of cringed but as long as the clothes hold up the way they say they should then it is money well spent. I love the fact that they are light, stylish, they wash easily and they are fast drying which are all great points when you are traveling.

  6. I would like a pair of pants that can be shorts but they always seem to be either too tight or too baggy. I guess I need to check the website? Do they have anything in black? :)

    1. Yes, they have pants that zip off into shorts. I have a pair from the women's selection and they very nice, they even have a life time guarantee. Kevin thought of getting a pair but he found that the length of the shorts were too short for him so he didn't get those but he did get just a pair of shorts and is very happy with them. I am pretty sure that they do have some pants in black, not sure if the pants with the zip off shorts come in black though.

  7. Are there brands similar to Tilley but at a less expensive price?

    1. There probably is but they may not hold up as well or have the kind of guarantee that Tilley offers.
