It's a relatively steep hike, but from the time we left Sherman to the time we were at the top was only 45 minutes. We took a different route coming back down.
It started on the side where there used to be an old gravel pit and they've got a big chunk of that side of the mountain dug out.
Bye Sherman...see you in a couple of hours!
Ruth at the old gravel pit at Pilot Knob.
Big boulders.
Shorts and t-shirt weather! Not much sun though.
Ruth, heading uphill.
Hi Sherman!
These military helicopters fly up and down the highway a few times every day. Not sure what they're doing but it could just be training because there's an airfield nearby.
Kevin, high above the LTVA (long term visitors area).
Getting near the top, you can see Los Algodones, Mexico.
Ruth, at the top!
Mountains off in the distance.
We took a different route back down. A little steep in places, and with some loose rocks. Just have to go slow.
We had received some emails over the past couple of days from fellow bloggers who wanted to meet with us. And we wanted to meet with them! So it all came together because they were all able to visit at the same time!
It's great having visitors because Sherman gets himself all cleaned up (with some help from us!), and we put out his nice new patio mat. We've been RV'ing now into our eighth year and we've never owned a proper RV camping mat!
And new chairs too! How spiffy is that? We love the Aztec looking design of our mat.
So after lunch, our visitors began showing up. Kevin and Evelyn from RV Khronicles of Kevelyn, Ray and Cindy from Ray and Cindy's RV Travels, and Janos and Maggie from Lenses and Wheels.
We had a great afternoon visiting with all of these folks. We knew them, and they knew us, but they didn't know each other. So now they do!
Ray and Cindy, Evelyn and Kevin, Janos and Maggie, and Ruth and Kevin.

Thanks for hosting the get together. It was great to finally meet the two of you in person. Good luck at the dentist today, Ruth!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Evelyn, everything went fine at the dentist today. :-)
DeleteIt was wonderful to have you and Kevin stop by yesterday and finally get to meet the both of you. We will be in the area for a while so if you are close by maybe we can together again for a hike or something. Thanks fr the wine! :-)
I've often wondered what one could see from atop Pilot Knob. Now I know & it looks like you got yourselves some good leg exercise not only on the way up but on the way down as well.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great view from up there. It was so surprising to see all that green on the other side of the mountain.
DeleteAfter doing the hike down and back up at Basaseachi Falls in Mexico earlier in the month, this was a piece of cake. ;-)
It was indeed great to meet fellow bloggers. Safe travels everyone.
ReplyDeleteIt was wonderful to finally meet you both. I wish that we had a little more time. Maybe we will cross paths again very soon, plus we need to meet Penny! :-)
DeleteI would suggest hiking sticks for you both I love mine cheers les
ReplyDeleteI have suggested them to Kevin but he isn't interested in them but I think that I might be. I would like to try some out first before actually buying a set.
DeleteThat is a neat photo of your excursion to the top of the mountain. Makes it all worth while.
ReplyDeleteRuth sure is brave to go to a strange dentist and one in Mexico too. I am afraid of dentists. I've had mine for 30 years and barely trust him.
Yes, it does. We always like to see what things look like from above. We were totally surprise by the great views on the other side of the mountain.
DeleteBoth Kevin and I are pretty easy going and that type of thing doesn't really bother us, plus we had a good recommendation for this place. Today's visit went really well.
The Jackery charger is now just $24! I paid $35 for the same one "on sale" just six months ago. I love it for my tablet---it lets me charge it while using it, without a cord tethered to a wall.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are really happy with the product, too bad you couldn't have gotten at the $24 price.
DeleteI have never been able to climb Pilot Knob until this year, when we had planned to be right there, right now, but did not make it, we could have met up with all these other bloggers and you guys as well.
ReplyDeleteGood thing there is always next year George, it will still be there. If you keep up with your exercise program, you will be running up it! ;-)
Deleteglad you made that hike, a short and loose rock one but worth it for the view on top...
ReplyDeleteYep, it was a nice hike. Have to say that we likeg the way we came down better than the way we went up, it was much more picturesque and more interesting than going up through the quarry part.
DeleteNice patio mat! My friend always bugged me because I was careful not to get embers from the campfire on my patio mat, and I was constantly sweeping it like it was part of the RV! LOL
ReplyDeleteThey aren't cheap so I don't blame you for wanting to keep it looking like new!
DeleteYour new rug looks so bright and pretty.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing how RVers can visit each other even waaaaay out in the desert! Wonderful life.
Totally agree, this is the life!
DeleteHow wonderful to catch up with fellow bloggers. Will follow your further travels with interest. Thanks for joining me on my ride.
ReplyDeleteIt was really nice to meet up with these people as well as the ones for the Blogger Fest last Saturday. Maybe next year you can plan to join in the fun! ;-)
DeleteAs for the mat and chairs, some just told me, "I want one". I'm adding that to the list.
ReplyDeleteNow, i wonder who that might have been?!
DeleteGreat blog of a fun day in the desert! The hike looked interesting with more elevation around than I would have expected. And the mat looks great. We have both collapsible walking sticks and a oouple that we sanded down and put some varnish on for our hiking. We really like them. Bet you'd be surprised at how useful they are. Fun times with more bloggers.
ReplyDeleteThanks Randy, we loved the hike and the views were great and well worth it. We are actually starting to feel like real RVers after 7 years and not having a patio mat, now we just need to stay put for a few days so we can get some use out of it and the chairs.
DeleteI would like to try out some trekking pole, I agree that they would make going downhill, especially on loose gravel sections, much easier. I don't want to buy any though without trying them out first.
I do like the mat and chairs.....
ReplyDeleteI prefer using one walking stick only.
I found one left on a trail a couple years ago. But... I do have a favorite agave light weight stalk that is actually my favorite. Really helpful for the coming down part ... Now.. if I could just remember to take it with me when we hike !
Thanks Kelly, we like them too, now we just need to stay in one spot for longer than a day or two to be able to use them.
DeleteI need to find someone that I could borrow a hiking pole or trekking sticks from so that I could actually go out on a good trail and try them out. I don't want to spend the money without knowing whether I would like them or not.
My dad keeps his hiking stick in the back of his car, that way he always has it with him. :-)
