We had asked about doing the longest zip line in the world, and the cable car in the canyon. It turns out that they're doing scheduled maintenance on them today and tomorrow, so if we really wanted to do them, we would pretty much have to do them yesterday.
Can't say enough good things about Mario and the Hotel Divisadero Barrancas. Thanks for helping us out! Here's a couple of pics of the hotel...
Ruth, at the huge wooden entrance door.
More gorgeous views.
If you get bored looking at the view (not!) you can watch the hummingbirds.
This fellow actually sat still for us for a little while.
We hopped in Sherman to do the short drive to the Ecotours. We had to pay 20 pesos ($1.65) each to get in. Once you have aticket, you can stay as long as you wish. I asked if we could park overnight, and they said sure, but the gates are locked after 7:00pm, so we would be stuck until morning. No problem.
Especially for the greatest boondocking spot in the world!
Free camping overlooking the Copper Canyon. Spectacular! GPS 27.526269, -107.827443
We parked up nice and close to the edge so that we would have a spectacular view from our side window. I've used that word "spectacular" a few times over the last couple of days!
And I'm not done yet!
They have several adventure packages at the teleferico (cable car). You can do one of the longest zip lines in the world, at 2.5 kms (1.6 miles) and take the cable car back to the top. Or you can do a series of 7 smaller ziplines and bridges and take the cable car back. Or you can take the cable car both ways. Or they have an obstacle course type of thing that looks like fun too. Something for everybody!
So...we decided to do the longest zip line in the world, where you reach speeds up to 105 km/h (65 mph)!
The departure point for the big zipline!
There are two of the long zip lines. I asked these guys if they had already done the maintenance on the one we were using!
Okay. I'm strapped in and ready to go. This is my view!
And I'm off. Too fun!
The first five seconds are pretty exhilarating because you gain speed so quickly. But after that, you adjust your senses a little and just enjoy the ride. It lasts for about two minutes, which doesn't sound like much but when you're doing it it seems like a really long time!
Scenery on the way down.
Apparently this is what I look like going down a zip line at 60 mph! No idea why my eyes look closed...I thought they were open at the time!
Coming in for a landing.
The whole system brakes automatically, so it was a pretty easy landing. Then, I got to watch as Ruth came down. She was so far away that I had a hard time picking her up with the zoom lens!
Here she comes!
Ha! Is this someone having fun, or what??!
Then, we had a 15 minute hike up to the cable car platform.
Along the way, we met a dog and some goats.
And the guy looking after them. People still live in the canyon below.
If you need to go...this place will do!
Fantastic! Actually, spectacular!!
If you ever want to feel like you're flying, this is a good way to do it!
Glowing smiles after a great day.
The view out of our window at dusk.
We made our way across in the cable car and back to Sherman and the best boondocking spot in the world overlooking the canyon. Simply spectacular!
Wow! What a great place to stay, and what a fabulous experience.
ReplyDeleteI think that was our best ever boondocking spot, what a spectacular view we had.
DeleteWOW that looks fantastic!!!
ReplyDeleteIt sure was!
DeleteZippity doo da! Those are the first words that came to my mind. Looks like tons of fun!
ReplyDeleteHa, that is funny! You and Jerry would love this zip line, Paula.
DeleteLooks fantastic! And here I am, the wimp that couldn't do the zip in Puerta Vallarta... (yeah... forfeited my $99).... but Ruth looks like it's a lot of fun. (Kevin... you don't look so enthusiastic, sorry)..... but wooohooo! Loving your latest adventure!!!!
ReplyDeleteOuch, I'm not sure that I could have forfeited that kind of money, too bad that they couldn't reimburse you at least some of it. I have to admit that I was nervous, and wouldn't go first but once that initial couple of seconds were over, it was a blast! Kevin had a fun time too but I guess it is a bit hard to take a good selfie traveling along at those speeds.
DeleteWow! Great photo of Ruth! You are a great photographer, Kevin! I'd love to try that zip line! I did one in Alaska and it was advertised as the highest zip line. It was so much fun! Im quite adventurous for an old retired person!
ReplyDeleteYes, Kevin did a great job on that photo! This one was labeled at the longest zip linein the world but that was back in 2012 and I think that maybe it has now lost the title but we are totally sure on that.
DeleteIsn't it fun to be an adventurous "old fart" and be able to do these things! :-)
We did our first zip lining in St. Lucia last year and loved it. This one looks even more amazing, what a view! You guys look totally exhilarated!
ReplyDeleteAnother item for the bucket list....
Good for you Esther, I am sure that you would love this one too, especially with the gorgeous views.
DeleteThat bucket list just keeps growing doesn't it, just like ours does.
You guys have huevos to do that zip line! Ruth, you still have a career in modeling awaiting! Take advantage of it. Keep warm.
ReplyDeleteI know that I was a bet nervous and made Kevin go first but once I saw him do it, then I knew I could do it. It was a ton more fun that bungee jumping.
DeleteIt has definitely been a challenge staying warm at night!
Great picture of you, Ruth!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kevin did a great job taking that!
DeleteBreathless - gives us chills!!!!!
ReplyDeleteB&C in PA
Wow....looks like fun! Great Pictures!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kay, and It was fun!
DeleteJust awesome pictures!! That second one of Ruth is fantastic - should be in a magazine. Best outhouse location ever!! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you Janis, Kevin did a fantastic job on that photo!
DeleteLove the location of that outhouse, it has to have one of the best views that we have ever seen.
Wow! Just WOW!
ReplyDeleteLike Kathe K. says, WOW! Les did the shorter zip lines but I like the way you did it.
DeleteThanks Kathe and Croft!
DeleteWe actually wanted to do the short zip lines and the bridges but to do the course it was going to take one and a half hours and we were there too late in the day and teleférico (cable car) and the activities were closed for the next two days so that is when we made a quick decision to to the big zip line. So happy that we did!
