Tilley - 6 month clothing update

It was about six months ago that we received our order of Tilley clothing in the mail. We were about to embark on a one month trip to South Korea, and we like to travel light. We only take a wheeled carry on bag, and just about everything that was in our bag came from Tilley.

Hats, socks, underwear, shirts, jackets, and pants!

Today, we want to report back on Kevin's Tilley travel pants.

This is the only pair of pants that Kevin brought with him to Korea, and it's really the only pair of pants that he's worn since we got back. He loves them.

When we travel, we do a lot of laundry by hand. One or two pieces every evening, and our Tilley items are dry by morning 90% of the time. One thing we do to improve the odds of them being dry by morning is to wring them out well, and then tightly roll up the article of clothing in a towel and leave it to sit for 10 minutes before hanging it up to dry. Also, to try and do the laundry right after supper instead of waiting until bed time.

Tilley clothing is all about pockets. Of course when you're traveling, pockets are a good thing! Lots of them!

Tilley has designed 9 pockets into this pair of pants. One of the best things about this pair of pants is that the front pockets - where you might throw your loose change -  have been designed so that the change can't possibly fall out of the pocket while you're sitting down.

The front pockets have built in "stop loss" change catchers so that coins can't roll out of your pocket when you sit down.

Oh, and they're nice deep pockets!

Also, built in to one of the front pockets is another, hidden pocket where you can stash some extra money for safe keeping.

In six months of near daily use, these pants are showing zero signs of wear. They dry very quickly, especially when being worn. We got caught in the odd rainstorm while being out hiking, and they'd be totally dry less than an hour later. They're comfortable, with a very minor amount of stretch in the fabric.

When ordering, follow the sizing directions exactly. They will shrink when you first wash them, so they are sized and designed to arrive slightly too big and slightly too long. I found that the sizing was exactly correct once they were washed and dried the first time.

Yes, Tilley clothing is fairly expensive. At $159 you would want these pants to be comfortable, easy to wash and wear, and be properly designed for what you want to use them for. These Tilley pants are all of that. And you'd want them to last a long, long, time. Given how much I've worn these pants over the last six months, I'd expect the average user to get more than five years out of them, and possibly a lot more. I hope to have mine for many years, despite the heavy use.
