Arrived in snowy Nova Scotia

Fairly uneventful flight with Air Canada. Our last choice preference of the three Canadian airlines. Given identical pricing, we prefer to fly either Westjet or Porter (free beer!) but this was an Air Miles redemption flight and the actual flight times were perfect.

Got to Ottawa airport around 11:30am for our 2:15pm flight. Lots of time, and it's a good thing because we've never seen such a long lineup going through security.

Ottawa has a pretty small airport, and it's not normally very busy. But this time, we stood in line for just over a half an hour. And by the time we got through, the line had grown even longer and I'm sure some of those people were looking at more than an hour. Turns out they only had one screening lane open out of the eight available. Just as we got through, they opened another lane.

At Ottawa airport.

There's always someone not using what's inside their head. At least it makes it entertaining. We arrived at our seats to find someone else in one of them. I say with a smile "Excuse me, we've got these seats in row 27".

The woman immediately says "Oh, sorry...I'm in row 26".

And I'm thinking...well what the heck are you doing in row 27? I mean, she was one of the first people to get on the plane. How does she end up in the wrong row? I don't get it.

So we're seated near the back of the plane. It's just a small plane, with two seats on either side of the aisle. This lady comes back to row 25, which is just over the wing. She starts bitching to the stewardess that she asked for a window seat. The stewardess, trying to be extremely polite, says "oh, but you do have a window seat ma'am.".

The woman squeals "but I can't see anything".

And she just kept on and on about it. Unbelievable. I almost went to volunteer to give her my seat, but the people sitting across from us, who had also been shaking their heads at this whole scenario, quickly talked me out of it, as they didn't want her sitting so close to them! We all laughed.

Downtown Ottawa from the air.

Heading east, we flew right over Montreal.

And not long after, we flew right over Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley.

Arrived in Halifax to a bright sunny day. Still chilly though, and still lots of snow on the ground. Our daughter Lindsey and the kids were there to pick us up, and we drove about an hour to the Annapolis Valley where, depending on the area, they've had between 300cm and 420cm of snow.

That's between 10 and 14 feet of snow this winter!!!

Grandson Cameron's 4th birthday yesterday. He had some presents to open, but his younger sister Sadie (19 months)  had more fun playing peek a boo with an empty box...

(turn up your volume...)

Too funny. She's such a sweetie.

We had brought Cameron and Sadie each something from Mexico. Cameron's was a Spiderman toy attached to a parachute, and we had seen a guy selling them on the beach in Mazatlan. They fly like a kite.

Grandson Cameron, age 4.

Who's this big kid?

It was a little too windy, but I went outside just to give him a quick preview of how it works. We'll go out one day and let the string out a little further when it's not so cold and windy!

Our son Alex had sent Cameron his present and he opened that as well. It was called "Crazy Forts" and it's a fun idea. It only took a few minutes to set up, then you throw a blanket or sheet over it, and the kids have an instant play fort!

Daddy Justin, reading the instructions! Sadie, always smiling. She such a happy little girl.

Cameron, helping put it together.

And there it is! Instant play fort.

Cameron and Grandma, inside the fort!

You can buy Crazy Forts on Amazon...

A fun toy. Cameron likes it so much that he slept in it last night!

  1. Crazy Forts looks like fun. What a great idea. Funny about your flight. It's like being here for a week in Mexico City. After two days I already want to escape from all the nuts. Too many people.

    1. Cameron loves his Crazy Forts. It can be added to as well so if he was to get another set he could make it even bigger!

We loved Mexico City but one week is definitely enough time at one time!

  2. Looks like Crazy Forts is the perfect toy for budding molecular physicists!

  3. Pretty sure an IQ test for air travel would sort it all out. Or maybe not. Air Canada isn't my first choice either. Just too many reasons to go into here.
Looks like you'll be having gobs of fun with the little guys. More snow on the way?

    1. Somehow I think that would be ruled as unconstitutional. Air Canada may not be our first choice but I have to say the last couple of times we have taken them they have been surprisingly good.

Yep, more snow! It has already started here tonight.

  4. They are so cute - so nice you were there for his birthday. I can't imagine 10-14 feet of snow. The 8 foot of snow we had on our final Alberta winter before we moved to Vancouver Island just about did us in. And that was completely abnormal. Hopefully it all melts without flooding.

    1. We were really happy to be there for his birthday, it was a special treat for us all.

Luckily that 10-14 feet aren't all on the ground, that was just the total so far for the winter, some of which has already melted. Unfortunately though it has started snowing once again. :-( I expect that there will be a fair amount of flooding here this spring.

    1. I think it would be just a little too cramped in the Crazy Fort, even for us! ;-)
