We'll be heading northeast up to Mesquite, Nevada where we've got some packages waiting for us at the post office, and then into Utah. Looking forward to seeing some of Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks, and we'll also be staying at Kodachrome Basin State Park for a couple of nights.
Yesterday was a real hop, skip, and jump kind of a day!
Three more flights added to our flight history!
The schedule yesterday had a pretty tight connection at Dallas. Even if things happened on time, we were going to have only 45 minutes from the time one plane landed to the time the next plane took off. For those of you who don't fly very often, that 45 minutes would include taxiing to the terminal, getting off the plane, getting to your new boarding gate, and getting on the next plane. That pretty much takes up most of that 45 minutes!
So when we were departing Philadelphia, something broke on the hitch where they push the plane away from the gate. It took them half an hour to get it fixed! So we were about a half hour late. The pilot tried to make up time because they had 49 people on board who were trying to make connecting flights in Dallas, but that was the best they could do.
They moved us into a couple of empty seats closer to the front of the plane, and we scrambled to get off as quickly as possible. We had preplanned where we had to go and to which gate and we literally ran from gate D29 to D20...lucky that they were that close together! We were the last ones on the plane, and we took off like five minutes later. So lucky that we made our connection!
There were some really strong winds coming into Vegas and it was a rough landing. Because of the winds, it was also really dusty and hazy. We took the free bus to the car rental building and then it was a 15 minute walk from there to where Sherman was parked. Along the way, I got a neat photo of the sun...
A dusty sky obscures the sun near Las Vegas airport.
The fridge is nearly empty, so we're off to do a big grocery shop, and then we've got 90 miles (144 kms) or so to drive to Mesquite.
Sitting here in the motorhome, I'm on the internet using my wifi long rage antenna. Wouldn't have been able to get online without it, so it's proving it's usefulness! Seems to work really well, and I'm happy we've got one. You can buy one here...
Our Canadian readers can shop here...
Love the header pic - that is neat! We fly quite a bit and yes it's nerve racking trying to make connecting flights. You did it and are back with Sherman! Carry on! ;)
ReplyDeleteConnie in PA
Thanks Connie and Barry, we thought at the time that it looked like a cool picture when we watched the first plane fly by so that's when we decided to get a picture of another plane flying by it a short time later. Boy was it windy and dusty that evening, sure glad we didn't have to drive in it!
DeleteGlad you made it back to Sherman safely and out of the Canadian Winter/Spring lol.
ReplyDeleteWe are too Cheapchick! It won't be long before we are back there again but the weather looks a lot more promising on the other side of Canada, thankfully.
DeleteI think you're going to like Kodachrome Basin. It's a beautiful area.
ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure that we will and it's neat that we have no idea what to expect so it will be a big surprise for us.
DeleteI just got your message so that probably means we missed you. If not, we are in # 6 at Road Runner RV Park 4711 Boulder Hwy. Las Vegas,
ReplyDeleteSo glad that we were able to meet up with you both, too bad it was only for an hour or so but that is better than nothing. Enjoy the rest of your time in Vegas and have a safe drive north.
DeleteOh man, that "we ran" part would have been the end of it for the two of us. We learned early on to take direct flights over to Europe, since there was this one time ( wanted to use up some "miles") and we thought we'd transfer at Newark.
ReplyDeleteWell, we were late getting in, and the girl at the desk said, "Well, if you *run* you can make it to your flight to Amsterdam." What she didn't know was that we already knew that there was another flight within the hour, and that we had already booked ourselves on that one. So there was no running.
Good on ya for doing it though, I'd still be in Dallas.
That was the first time that we have ever had to run for a connecting flight and hopefully we won't have to do it again. I am sure that the distance was at least a quarter of a mile, we hike a lot but we don't "run" so by the end we were just about beat. So happy we made the flight though.
DeleteNothing like being back in your motorhome, we are so looking forward to it
ReplyDeleteYes, it is always a nice feeling knowing that you have your won bed back, that is one of the things that we missed the most when we are away.

ReplyDeleteGlad you told us it is the sun. I thought it was the moon!
That's why Kevin mentioned it, it would be easy to mistake it for the moon.
DeleteGlad you made it back safe and sound. The photo of the plane and moon is fabulous. Super job!
ReplyDeleteWe are happy to be back too! BTW, the photo is of the sun not the moon, it was near dusk and and very dusty so the air masks the sun and makes it look very big and hazy.
DeleteLove the header picture but it looked more like the moon.
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen and Al, yep it would be easy to mistake it for the moon.
DeleteGreat header shot. Our favorites in that area of Utah are Capital Reef and Kodachrome, in that order. Simply outstanding parks. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWe are really looking forward to our short time in Utah, unfortunately it will only be a "short" time. I am pretty sure that we will have to return to that area when we have more time, it sounds like there is a ton of things to see there.
