Here's the route we took yesterday...
Yesterday's drive, 139 miles (222 kms)
Yes, we purposely took this route east of the Salt lake City area to avoid the congestion and to avoid being on the Interstate in general. So much more scenic, although I'm sure we're using a little more gasoline in the process. One of those things that we think is worth it.
Variable weather yesterday. Didn't see much of our blue sky and sunshine. It even looked like we were going to have some storms, but other than a few raindrops all we saw were really dark clouds.
Here are some pics along the way...
Northern Utah scenery.
Lots of twisty mountain roads.
More dark clouds.
But only a few raindrops.
More dark clouds rumble through.
Some nice camp sites at the bottom of this valley, but they wanted $10 per night.
Beautiful view of the south end of Flaming Gorge Reservoir.
We turned down this single lane track for about a mile. It had been graded earlier in the day so we were lucky!
And we ended up at this spot at GPS 41.14099, -109.57420
A nice roast in the oven that we had bought on sale at $3.99 a pound!
Dinner is served. And yes, it was delicious!
Sunset.
Nobody around for miles, except for some pronghorn antelope, and rabbits. Slept like a rock.
Today we have a bit of a long driving day for us,about 225 miles (360 kms) to Jackson, Wyoming just south of Yellowstone National Park.
A great "deal of the day" at Amazon.com today... the best selling hammock on Amazon, and it has really high reviews too...
And our Canadian readers can get a great deal on a Cuisinart Ice Cream maker...today only...
Virga falling everywhere in that part of the country. Dinner looks YUMMY!
ReplyDeleteIt was delicious and I am pretty sure the leftovers will be too! :-)
DeleteBeautiful country side, and awesome campsite, and an amazing dinner too. Does it get much better?
ReplyDeleteThe only thing that could have been better was if the sun could have been shinning and a few degrees warmer!
DeleteI am thrilled that I found your wonderful blog, as it is filled with so much helpful information for beginning RVers/campers...We have recently purchased a vintage Airstream, and can't wait to get on the road. Our trips will be occasional, but we are so excited to get started! Thank you for sharing your adventures and wisdom of travel.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Yaya
What an exciting time for you and there is nothing wrong with the occasional trip, it is much better than no trip! ;-)
DeleteI hope that this blog will help you out and if you have any further questions don't hesitate to send us and email, which is located near the top in the right hand column.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteGood timing with your post as I'll be taking a road trip through that exact area next month.
As always really enjoy your posts!
Take care,
Tina
Northern, CA
I am sure you will love the area and the weather will be so much better than it is now but it will also be busier. By the time you come you most likely wouldn't be able to boondock anywhere around Jackson up to Yellowstone and the private campgrounds are very expensive. We would recommend that you stay in the National Forest Campgrounds which will be much cheaper or in the National Parks, you may need to make reservations or arrive early to get a spot though.
DeleteBummer, so many free boondocking sites, so little time! :c(
ReplyDeleteI know, what a dilemma we have to live with! ;-)
DeleteEven Yorkshire pudding!!
ReplyDeleteCan't have a roast of beef without having Yorkshire pudding!
DeleteWhat a gorgeous spot you found. LOL at your "they wanted $10 a night". It's not the price so much but rather the gathering of people that makes me want to boondock. So how did you find this place? I'd sure like to stay there longer than over night. Beautiful pictures of the scenery. I wouldn't wish rain on your travels but I'll bet they could really use it.
ReplyDelete$10 a night is fine for an unserviced campsite. But my point was, why pay the $10 if you can find something suitable for free?
DeleteI'm impressed that you drive a reasonable distance when possible. Too often it's a 400 mile day for so many. I'll ask it too: where'd you find that great site?
ReplyDeleteI use a variety of resources Larry...but one of my favorites is simply searching Google maps satellite view and looking at the forest roads to see if I can recognize an area that looks like it would be suitable.
