Yep, our daughter Lindsey and her husband Justin have taken off on a well deserved week away from the snow and cold. They've gone to sunny Cuba, for a week of the beach. The only thing ice cold that they'll experience is the temperature of their beer and drinks.
That's okay, it's a pretty safe bet that the snow and cold will still be here waiting for them when they return.
Yesterday, I drove them to Halifax airport for their flight to Toronto while Ruth stayed behind with Cameron and Sadie. They stayed overnight with a friend in Toronto, and this morning they fly to Varadero, Cuba.
Justin's step brother is getting married, and around 30 of their friends are attending this wedding in Cuba. Lindsey asked us about 8 months ago if we would come and look after the kids while they did this, and we agreed to do so...so here we are in snowy, cold Nova Scotia.
They've had pretty much a record winter here as far as snow accumulation. I guess for us, this is payback for the past 7 winters we've spent staying away from this type of weather.
It still looks like January out there. Did I mention yet about the 10 cms (4 inches) more that we're getting tonight? Yep.
Kids have been good though. At least as good as a four year old and a one and a half year old can be. Man, it sure takes a lot to get them ready to do anything. They're still in daycare for three days this week, so that gives us a break. We were supposed to have them there for 8:30am this morning, but we were a few minutes late. Nobody seemed to care though. We have to pick them up at 3:30pm, so we'll try and be a few minutes early!
Going to have a snack, and then go for a walk while the sun is shining. It's actually pretty nice out there just now, but that's supposed to change this afternoon.
No sign of spring here yet.
A great deal on a portable air compressor to keep in your vehicle. Viair is the best rated compressor out there and for under $40 you can't go wrong...
Viair Heavy Duty Portable Air Compressor - USA
For our Canadian readers, Amazon.ca has a great deal on a Polar Heart Rate monitor...
Incredible how the two sides of this country can have such different spring days, huh?
ReplyDeleteIt is a hilarious reminder of just how busy it is with little kids when we get to look after them, isn't it? I guess it was the same for us but, oh, how easy we forget!! Enjoy your time with Cameron & Sadie. The week will fly past!!!
Yep, it is totally amazing. I think spring has forgotten to come to this part of Canada! ;-)
DeleteThat is why young people are meant to have children because they have the energy. I sure do wonder how we managed to do it when our kids were young but somehow you just do it and things always managed to get done, although I remember even back then being tired by the time the weekend came. Now it is nice to enjoy the time and then hand them back at the end of the week, although we sure will miss them when we leave.
My first thought upon seeing that header picture was that it looks like it was taken near one of those monitoring stations you'd see in Siberia or somewhere in the far north.
ReplyDeleteIt sure feels like we are in Siberia or the far north!
DeleteEnjoy your time with the grands, I ma sure they will give you a good workout.
ReplyDeleteYes, they will certainly be giving us a workout!
DeleteI know last summer when we had our Granddaughter all day we were exhausted. You may need a trip to Cuba when they come back.😀 but seriously have lots of fun with those two.
ReplyDeleteKevin saw a trip today to Holguin, Cuba for one week at an all inclusive resort from Toronto for about $350, we were tempted to pack up the kids and take them with us for the week and do our babysitting there instead of here. I am sure the two of them would have loved making sand castles on the beach!
DeleteI can handle that weather if it's temporary (like you are having). I would be so depressed if it were for the full 9 months that winter seems to be over there.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with the kids, they look like great kids!
I'll tell you these East Coaster's are truly a hearty bunch of people and they really deserve to see spring arrive REALLY soon! We are happy to only have to deal with it for total of a month, so we really aren't complaining.
DeleteThey are great kids and they both have us laughing at their antics!
Sounds like the kids are in good hands while the parents have a good time. Hope the 4 of you do too.
ReplyDeleteWe like to think that they are in good hands. So far they don't seem to be wanting to run away. ;-)
DeleteI am sure it will be a lot of fun, but I suspect you will need a vacation when it is over:)
ReplyDeleteYes, it will be lots of fun and luckily we do have a two week "vacation" before we start back to work in May!
