More pics of our Great Horned Owl Family

I spent the morning getting the office back into shape and the computer system online. We start taking reservations on Tuesday May 5th, and it's nice to know that everything is ready for that day. Meanwhile, Ruth began with the cleanup of our front yard. The grass needed cutting already, and the leaf blower doesn't work as well in the longer grass. But, it had to be done.

Oh...and our Great Horned Owl does have twins!

We're enjoying beautiful weather. Sunny and 23C (73F) yesterday, which is almost a record high. Going to be a little cooler today, but still sunny. Average high for this time of year is 13C (55F), so we're definitely being spoiled.

Ruth, hard at work with the leaf blower.

Getting some help from one of our John Deere Gators.

After we got most of the leaves and twigs cleaned up, I cut the grass. Things are pretty dry already so we're going to have to do some watering to keep things green.

All cleaned up. It was a productive day!

Ruth went out yesterday morning to check on our owls. As she had said yesterday, she thought that she had seen two little feathered heads in the nest, but couldn't be sure. Well she proved herself right...

Two fuzzy feathered heads.

And there's Mom herself.

Another great day for working outdoors...better get at it!

  2. Those baby owls are so bloody cute. So nice you get to see them grow. The yard already looks great - you are so much further ahead of the game this year than last year. I guess it really pays off to return to the same gig.

    1. We really enjoyed watching the one from last year grow but one it was big enough to fly, it never let us come close enough for a good picture. Maybe this year we will get a better chance, now that we will have twice the opportunities.

We are definitely further ahead this year than last, which is a good thing because it is only the two of us at the moment. I had told Kevin last year, that I wanted to come back, as did he because we didn't want to start all over at another new place and have to clean up someone else's work that wasn't up to our standards. Plus we like it here! :-)

    1. That part went well but a few other areas are going to take a little more time. Surprisingly enough our muscles aren't quite as sore as we expected them to be.

    1. That's an idea, maybe one of the birding organizations would be interested in setting one up. Something to look into, it would be so cool to see from a closer angle.

  8. Be lots o fun watching the fuzzballs grow up and fledge. Haha, they look like they're wearing sunglasses in the picture. Can't wait to see more. Mom is quite a looker herself.

It's only May 2nd, for goodness sake -- you guys way up in Saskatchewan should still be wearing heavy jackets!

    1. I don't think it will be long before they fledge if the timing is like last year. Mayy 22nd was the last good picture that I got of the baby and that was after it had taken it's first flight. Mom is a beautiful owl and she takes such great care of those two. Hoping that we can get some better pictures of the babies.

Not this year, we are having fantastic weather! :-)

  9. Everything seems so green compared to this time last year. Glad you're enjoying such warm temperatures and it will be exciting to read your updates and watch the twins grow up and eventually leave the nest!

    1. Very much so, Dianne. I think we are at least two weeks ahead of last year with the trees and grass. The only problem with that is that we aren't going to get such great shots of the owlets soon because the leaves are going to be in our way. :-(
