One week to go

Including today, we have one week to get the campground ready for opening day. We've already put in a solid eight days straight, and looking around, we think we're about half way there. So we should be okay.

It's feeling a little rushed because last year there were three of us. This year, we couldn't find a suitable replacement for our one full time summer student, and he has agreed to come back part time but he can't start until the 25th. So it's just Ruth and I, and the fact that the May long weekend here in Canada starts a week early this year.

Oh well...you do what you gotta do!

Good thing the weather has been cooperating. Sunny, but things are pretty dry and we really could use a half day of solid rain. I'm going to have to start the sprinklers going as soon as we get the lake water system turned on Monday.

The park is starting to get green.

And the grass is growing. I spent about three hours on the lawn mower yesterday.

Oh...some good news! Our main washroom building is finally undergoing renovations. It's so difficult to find people to do this kind of work. Unemployment rate is very low here in Saskatchewan, and these types of contractors can pretty much write their own ticket. I hope the finished product is what we were expecting, although even in a worse case scenario it'll be better than what we had. I just hope the park gets decent value for it's money.

Main washroom under renovation.

Our Great Horned Owl twins are growing up quickly. Any day now they'll be making an effort to get up out of the nest an start taking a few steps on nearby branches.

They sure do stare you down!

Mom, and one of the little ones. The other one is lower in the nest.

Temperature has cooled off a little, but it's another beautiful sunny day. Calling for a high of 17C (63F). Better get to work!

    1. Thank you Contessa, I love it too! I just wish the other little one (not so little really) would have stuck it's head up a little higher so it could have been seen better.

  2. What an experience.... up close and (almost) personal with those owls! The babies looks like a kid's stuffed toy. Your work sure has made that place look nice.

    1. Yes, it is lovely having those owls here. She was here last year too with only one baby and we loved watching them. We were really hoping that the mom would come back again this season, which she has and graced us with two babies. Every day I go out to have a look at them, I don't think I could ever get tired of seeing them.

We still have lots of work to do but it is coming along nicely.

    1. Thank you Lori, we are working hard on getting the park into tip top shape for opening day on Friday of the long weekend. It's lots of work but seeing the results is very satisfying.

Yes, the owlets are sweet and every so fluffy and their mom is so proud of them!

  6. Owls are so freaking cute - I just love your header. You never know, after all this hard work the Canadian price of liquor might not look so expensive :)

    1. Thanks Cheapchick! They really are so cute, the one in the header picture is a very curious one, it is always looking around to see what we are up to. :-)

Nothing will make the price of Canadian liquor look cheaper!

  7. How lucky you are to have those owls on the property ... fun to glimpse them. And look at those eyes (what big eyes you have!). You know what they say ... no rest for the weary! Get to work!

    1. We feel very lucky. Every day we are looking up to see what they are up too. It won't be long before they are perching on the branch beside the nest and then within a week of that they will be taking their first flight. once they are airborne we won't get such great pictures of them so we will enjoy this time as much as possible.

Nope, no rest for the weary, at least not until the first of October! ;-)

    1. For now, we just have to get the work done, once the long weekend has come and gone, there won't be quite so much urgency but we will still have lots to keep us busy.
