Just an update...

Reservations for our busy season continue to dribble in. Busy season for us essentially lasts from June 27th (the day after the kids get out of school) until August 9th. About 6 weeks.

I was comparing to last year, and we're definitely taking more reservations for the week before the July long weekend, and the week after the August long weekend. And August long weekend will again be sold out this year, in fact there are only six full hookup sites still available.

Our washroom renovation is coming along...slowly. The construction guys said they were stuck and they needed to wait for the electrician to do his thing, but he's pretty much finished now. So I expected them in yesterday, but they never showed. Hopefully today. So long as the project is completely finished by June 25th, it doesn't really matter. But time has a way of flying by, and before you know it they'll be scrambling to finish. I guess we'll see.

The water level in the lake is about a foot lower than it was last year at this time. It was May 28th last year when it started to rise, and I expect it will be the same this year, however they had very little snow out west so hopefully it will come up to a point where it's usable by the recreational boating crowd.

I changed the front brake pads on the little blue car yesterday. Easy job, and well worth doing it myself instead of paying somebody else $95 in labor to do it. So the brake job cost $42 instead of the $162 that Canadian Tire wanted. The car now has 200,000 kms (120,000 miles) on it, and they were the original brake pads. Not bad! But most of that was highway mileage and I drive pretty gently. In a couple of days, the little blue car will be 9 years old!

Supposed to go up to 28C (83F) today, but still no rain.

Oh, and a great deal at Lonely Planet. Their guidebooks (e-version) are on sale through Friday May 29th for $9.99 each. Pretty much half price, so it's a great deal. Use promo code EBOOKSALE. Check the "new edition" date though...I wanted the one for Colombia, but the new edition comes out in August so I'll wait for then. http://shop.lonelyplanet.com/ebooks

    1. I know what you mean! Canada has a few colourful birds but nothing like this guy. These are one of the most colourful birds in the world, having 11 different colours on each bird.

  2. Nice to do the work your self and save the money.
Wish I still had my tools, but most are long gone now.
Our 2002 Saturn has 200,000 kms on the odmeter, but 320,000 on the rest of the vehicle (towed miles don't show) did the original brakes a couple years ago,

    1. We are lucky that the workshop here at the campground has lots of tools so it helps to make the job a little easier. Your Saturn is doing really well and still looks great. It is amazing how long a car will last when it is really looked after.

    1. Yep, those lilac roller breasted rollers have 11 different colours on each one. We love watching the owls. The second one has finally left the nest now too! I don't think it actually flew though, I think it hopped, skipped and jumped it way to two trees down from the tree with their nest. The boys did a great job on the wood. There is still a little more to be stacked in the workshop, seeing the woodshed is full.

  4. We are experiencing lower water levels compared to the past 50 years that we've lived here at our PA home. I read that the tides are lower at our summer home in DE, too. We need rain!!!

    1. The north was getting lots of rain last year and Texas was dry, now the shoe is one the other foot. We actually had a very small storm go through with what seemed like hurricane winds for about 10 minutes and a small amount of rain but not enough to do the ground any good. Hope we all can get some rain, I just hope that when we do that it knows when to stop!

  5. Isn't it great knowing everything is coming together. I am sure when the peak season begins you two will be so happy with all the preparation you did.

    1. Yes, it is nice know that it is all coming together. It will be really nice to see that washroom building all done, mind you when it is done that means that I have another washroom building to clean! There is still lots that we want to do but it is slowly getting there and it may be a year or two before it is looking the way we think it should look.
