Because he just pulled off another big surprise. On us!
In February, I had come across a steal of a deal on a trip from Ottawa to to the tiny island of Bermuda. I sent a note to our son, and he booked it. He was to leave June 11th for a one week stay.
But while it would be cheap to get to Bermuda, it would not be cheap to stay there for a week. The very cheapest accommodation is around $100 a night. Plus food and traveling around meant that it was going to be a fairly expensive week away. Last month, I was even helping him try to find couchsurfers and shared accommodation.
What he didn't tell us was that he had already paid the $75 fee to Westjet and cancelled his ticket...instead, buying a return ticket to Regina, Saskatchewan!
I had even mentioned just the other day that he was off to Bermuda. I went so far as to send him a facebook message yesterday asking how his flight was and expecting a photo of him on a beautiful beach.
Yesterday evening around 9:00pm, Ruth and I were just relaxing in the house when there was a knock at the back door. We looked at each other with a "what's that all about" look on our faces because nobody ever uses the back door here. Strange.
I get to the door, where there's a small window and I peak out the window.
And I'm looking at our son Alex's face!
What??
Total surprise!!
I was in shock for 10 minutes, just shaking my head at this. Too funny! He pulled off a good one! He even had told me the original flight details because he knows that I might track the 8:00am flight to Bermuda online. Meanwhile, his flight to Regina didn't leave until 2:30pm. He arrived in Regina, rented a car, and did the two hour drive to Cabri Regional Park.
I'm still smiling about it. We had no idea! What a great surprise.

What an awesome surprise. Love it when the kids visit!! Kevin earned a trip to Bermuda in 1989 through his job. We very much enjoyed the free trip, but it is just another island and is very expensive. We would not pay to go back. So, I think Alex made a smart move.
ReplyDeleteWe love these kind of surprises! :-) We also think Alex made a wise choice. Nice that Kevin earned a trip there, that is the best way to get a trip. We would like to visit Bermuda but after your comment I don't think it will be high on our list.
DeleteHa.......Nice job Alex!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week together!! (How good is he at leaf pick-up??)
Yep, he got us good!
DeleteWe are going to enjoy our week with him. The leaves are just about picked up but we can think of a few other things that he can help with, after all he has to earn his keep! ;-)
Oh what a cool surprise. Enjoy your visit.
ReplyDeleteWe will, thank you!
DeleteBe Safe and Enjoy the surprise visit!
ReplyDeleteIt's about time.
We intend to enjoy every minute of his visit!
DeleteDid you have a couch for him to surf on? ;c)
ReplyDeleteYep, we do but we can do better than that and gave him a bed! ;-)
DeleteWonderful for all of you. How long has it been that you've been together?
ReplyDeleteNice looking man, I see who he gets his good looks from.
Enjoy the visit. It's going t be 105 today,so we are on the way to the lake.
We actually saw him in late March but only for a few days when he cam up to visit at my Dad's place and then once or twice for a few hours at his place in Ottawa. this will be a much more relaxed visit with him.
DeleteYikes, that is hot, hope you get a nice breeze from the lake.
I thought you were going to say that Tony came with him!!!
ReplyDeleteNow that really would have blown us away!
DeleteThere's just something about when your "kids" become adults. That's an awesome surprise indeed.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a wonderful surprise!

DeleteBoy is that wonderful! What a great son you have. I'm usually not one for surprises. I like to anticipate great events but I'd take this one no question about it. Enjoy! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteHe is great, isn't he?! We don't mind surprises as long as they are good surprises.
DeleteThat is great! Enjoy your time together!
