Having fun outside of Vegas

We've been to Vegas twice. The first time was to experience all the glitz and glamour there is to be seen. And there is a lot of glitz and glamour to be seen!

The second time was to use the airport. There are a lot of flights that go in and out of Las Vegas airport and it's a great way to go somewhere at a decent price.

But once you've seen all of the glitz and glamour, you don't really need to see it again. For us, once was enough. It's a good things there is a lot to see and do in the area

Lie on the white sand beach at Lake Las Vegas.

Many wealthy people have estates at Lake Las Vegas. If you go and lie on the nice sand beach and pretend that you're on a tropical island somewhere you may run into the likes of Celine Dion, William Hill, Chris Tucker, or some other famous person.

We enjoyed hiking in the mountains surrounding Las Vegas. Red Rock Canyon is a great place for a hike to get away from all the noise of the city.

There are also a lot of smaller towns outside of Vegas that are worthwhile to visit. We ended up in Primm, and Searchlight, but there's also Pahrump, Corn Creek, and Indian Springs. All interesting places to explore on a day drip outside of the city. Maybe you'll come across an old car club out for an outing as well...

And of course a drive out to Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam is something not to be missed. Make sure you get an early start to the day though because everybody else wants to see it as well so it's fairly busy. Getting an early start means you'll beat the crowds!

  1. Hi! We are finally back on the road heading from CT to ME to spend a week with my mom who is renting a cottage there for the month of July. We will be posting all of the adventures we have! Safe travels! Robin. wearetheshaws.blogspot.com

  2. We've been once although it was 24 years ago and your post reminds us we will likely return to see the changes along with the Hoover Dam.

    1. I am sure that when you make it there you will see a ton of changes. We don't really have the desire to go back to the city itself but we would love to explore more of the area around Vegas.

  3. We did the glitz and glamor back in 2007, but may need to go back again, to see the new bridge, Pahrump , and a bit more free things as well.

  4. Once is enough, you are correct... Unfortunately I have been there many more times than that as Vegas is a big convention town and there are / used to be several electronic and computer conventions there every year. I have been there at least 20 times for some of those conventions. The last time was a couple of years ago to buy a used car at the Lexus dealer there... one of the best if not the best car buying experience ever.

I also had one of the two most memorable meals I have ever had in Vegas back in the 80s at a restaurant that was on the strip... no longer exists unfortunately. We still talk about that meal.

Everyone should go to Vegas once in their lifetime as there is nothing else like it. It was nice to drive the strip after we bought the car to see the changes, but my wife and I were both glad to head out of town back to Wisconsin.

    1. We agree, everyone should go to Vegas at least once in their lifetime. I am sure that there isn't another place on earth quite like Vegas! You must know the area well now having gone so many times so glad to hear that you had a great car buying experience there.

    1. No we didn't see the burros there! We did one really good hike in Red Rock Canyon but I would like to go back because it looked like there was another really good hike that I would love to do as well.
