I was looking at the map again...I must be getting itchy to get on the road! We'll be heading for Moose Jaw when we leave here, and then pretty much straight south from there. At least this way it'll be easy to choose a route that we've never done before.
Here's something like what it'll look like...
That's a long drive...good thing we love road trips!
So I went to order the Dicor Roof Repair coating yesterday, and the website that I had found the best price had raised the price! Bad luck, but it will now cost us $40 more for the same product. But, even at $40 more this guy still has the best price to buy the stuff in Canada. We're so badly ripped off on most stuff here in Canada. How is it that you can buy this product for $71 in the U.S., but it costs $113 up here??
I did look at various other products. Our friend Chris had mentioned another product, "Liquid Roof" and it does also look like a good product, but it's actually even more expensive than the one made by Dicor. I think I'll stick with the Dicor one.
I looked at Sherman's roof again yesterday, thinking that maybe I could just order one gallon and simply touch up the bad areas. But that's not the right way to do it, so we'll just bite the bullet and order what we need to do the job properly.
I spent half the day yesterday fixing some problems in our concession building. The big commercial gas oven had gone funny and the pilot lights for the burners were too big so I did some research and figured out how to fix and adjust that stuff. And there was a leak coming from the air conditioner and I figured that out too.
Amazon has a new section called "Launchpad" where they sell new innovative products. Some interesting stuff...!!
And here in Canada, a great deal on an infrared temperature gun...

It looks like you will be coming through San Angelo, TX, on your trip south. I can suggest some free overnight spots or our state park is nice, too. I can set you up for a nice and comfortable stay if you like.
ReplyDeleteYep, feel free to suggest any free overnight spots in the San Angelo area. We won't be spending lots of time making our way through the States this time around though with the difference on the exchange rate for us, it is making it much more expensive for us. Let us know a little closer to the date. Thanks gumo! :-)
DeleteI think it was liquid roof that we used. It went on very well and was as easy as paint. Dicor is good too, just the liquid roof was the only stuff at Camping world at the time (and the dollar was still good back then). Lucky for me Camping World is a close drive across the border.
ReplyDeleteI think either product will do the trick!!
Thanks Karyn, good to know that you are happy with it. I am pretty sure that the DICOR product will be very similar.
DeleteOnly a couple of months left before you can hit the road. Well over the halfway mark now. I too am sick of prices in Canada. Likely that guy raised his price because of the exchange rate as likely imports it. Our way of combating the exchange rate is buying used when we can including things like clothes from the thrift store.
ReplyDeleteYep, the time is just flying by, we can't believe that we are past the half way mark and the the worst of the busy season in now behind us. We are really starting to get anxious about traveling again.
DeleteThat exchange rate is really a killer for sure, as you say the best way is to buy secondhand items as much as possible and that is what we try to do whenever we can, that or get really good deals on new stuff! :-)
Good luck with the Dicor product still cheaper than a new roof.
ReplyDeleteAs you know everythng is more expensive in Canada.
Today we just crossed the border to save a bundle in money on Canadian booze, like half price!
Even with a 30% exchange rate, booze is still a lot cheaper in the U.S..
DeleteBoy that is a LOT of Texas
ReplyDeleteIt sure is, and the top part is a part of Texas that we haven't traveled through yet, so we are looking forward to seeing what it has to offer.
DeleteWow, I was looking for options but I had never compared or checked prices. I take it by your road map you'll be stopping by on your way south, we hope!!!! Good thing is the low gas prices. BTW, are you getting thirsty for some cooollldddd Mexican beer?
ReplyDeleteYes, the plan is to get through the United States fairly quickly and be at your place around October 19th. Sherman is hoping the road in will be finished! And yes, getting very thirsty...
DeletePaul says if he is going to do the job...might as well do it right the first time.
ReplyDeleteWell we are hoping that this DICOR product is the right way and that it will only have to be done the one time and will last as long as the original roof has.
