An enjoyable day off

We decided to go for a drive to another Saskatchewan Regional Park.

There are over 70 of these parks in Saskatchewan, in addition to the Provincial Park system. We worked the one summer at Sturgeon Lake Regional Park, and of course two summers here at Cabri Regional Park. But we've never been to any of the other Regional Parks.

So yesterday, we took a drive over to Clearwater Lake Regional Park.

This park is near the town of Kyle. And it's kind of funny, but the town of Kyle is only 24kms (15 miles) away as the crow flies. But to drive, it's 66 kms (41 miles)!

(A) Cabri Regional Park to (B) Kyle, SK.

It's another 8 kms east from the town of Kyle to Clearwater Lake Regional Park.

This is just before the bridge where we cross Lake Diefenbaker (The South Saskatchewan River) at Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park.

We made it to Kyle, and stopped to use a fast unsecured internet signal. I had parked near the library, but that signal was secured. I guess we could have gone in to get a password, but there was another signal that was useable and fast. I downloaded the program for the new Garmin GPS, but found out later that the map update is yet another huge file (5 GB!) so that will wait for another day.

Made it to the park shortly after that. Stopped in at the office to talk to the administration manager Shelley, where we shared some stories and I picked her brains about how they do things there.

They have a smaller campground than we do, with about 50 sites.

However, the lake is surrounded by cabins and cottages. These cabins are all on park property which is leased to the cabin owner. It's not a very big lake, and with close to 300 cabins it's pretty crowded in some places. Must be a real zoo during busy season!

Ruth on the lakeshore.

Nice day, but cool...and a little windy.

We went for a walk around the perimeter of the lake. It was 4.5 kms (2.8 miles) around the lake.

Ruth and Clearwater Lake.

And then we drove back. We stopped in at Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park, just to drive around. Saw some of the campground there, but it was unimpressive.

Ruth and the little blue car overlooking Lake Diefenbaker.

It was chilly last night! It went down to a record low -2C (29F)! And yet they're calling for a high of 27C (81F) this coming Friday.

The largest Jackery smart phone battery pack is on sale this morning. These things just keep getting cheaper and cheaper...

For anybody in Canada who wants to buy an i-pad, here's your chance for a certified pre owned unit...

  1. Nice to get out and see some of your new province. We are at -2C this morning with frost but no 27C in our forecast. Enjoy it when you get it.

    1. Thanks Contessa, it was nice to get our and see some new territory for a change. You can tellit is time to start heading south when the temperature starts to drop below 0C at night. We are OK with that at night but we certainly don't want to see the daytime temperatures go that low.

  2. As avid readers of your Blog for the last for the last 3 years or so we have to ask if you are going to be back in the park in Sask. for season 3? If we are able to get to Sask. next summer we would love to get a chance to meet up with you and swap some stories. Ever since the early eighties we have wanted to have a motor home and last fall we bought a 1995 Minnie Winnie and have travelled to the East Coast with it this summer.Since we are retired and we are what you might call, " Fair Weather Travellers" we only travel in the summer and only in Canada these days, due to the high cost of Travel insurance. Keep up the great blog, it's our Virtual Get Away. Lyle and Dianna

    1. Hi Dianna, thank you for taking the time to leave a comment, we love to get them. :-)

Yes, we have signed the papers so we will be back here for another season and would love to have you stop by for a visit. Just try to avoid the really busy time from the end of June to the middle of August because we really wouldn't have much time for visiting.

  3. Very interesting to see another regional park. Very lovely lake but I'll bet you are right that it's a zoo in the season with all the cabins.

    1. It was nice to see another regional park and be able to compare it to this one. After visiting there we appreciate ours even more. We really didn't care a lot for having all those cabins in the park and surrounding the lake but obviously many do.

  5. Actually that is not the largest Jackery---the $30 Giant weighs in at 10.4oz and 12000mAh!

However they did upgrade the Fit this summer from 7800 to 10200mAh and added a second output port, yet kept the size and weight the same 7.4oz.

  6. It makes you appreciate your own park, doesn't it? You really do get to work in a pretty part of Saskatchewan. I love those rolling hills.

    1. Yes, it sure does and we really do appreciate our park! I love the rolling hills and the coulees but I have to admit we are really looking forward to seeing some mountains and some different scenery at this point.

  7. I don't think any of the 70 other parks will match up to yours with all the TLC you've given it! ;c)

    1. Thanks Paul and Marti but I am sure out of 70 or so parks, this one can't be the only one that gets lots of TLC. :-)

  8. You've got some fairly flat land there in Saskatchewan, with nice, full lakes, what a blessing! After a summer "stuck" in one place, isn't it grand to get Out and About and enjoy other parks? I know it is!

    1. Yes, there is definitely lots of flat land here in Saskatchewan but if you get off the main roads you will see rolling hills and coulees and lots of lakes and the further north you go you will see forests and bigger hills. Saskatchewan is really very scenic if you know where to look. We enjoyed our time out exploring but we are really looking forward to getting back on the road. One week to go!
