One day to relax, and one to get ready to go!

Normally, we take a full month to drive from the Canadian border to the Mexican border. We find that's a pretty good pace and it allows us time to relax and see things along the way.

So when we booked our flight from Mexico City to Medellin for October 30th, my thinking was that it would only add about 1,000 kms (620 miles) to our one month journey. Not really that much, when you spread it over the 30 days.

But then we booked that five day trip to Ottawa at the beginning of October. Now our one month journey south was extended by 1,000 kms, and lessened by five days.

So, somewhat poor planning on my part and to be honest it's felt a little rushed for our liking.

However...we are totally excited about our next adventure, which begins tomorrow!

Yesterday was spent relaxing, for the most part. We still don't have great internet, but using our BearExtender WiFi Range Extender Antenna we are able to pick up a weak unsecured signal, we think from across the lake.

We get the best signal sitting outside at this table.

So, I've been able to confirm everything for our flight as well as what we're doing when we arrive in Medellin.

Tomorrow is a long travel day. Around 10:00am, we will wait for traffic into town to subside and go stand beside the road out front and take a collectivo (shared) taxi into town. Short walk to the bus station where we buy our tickets on the next bus into Mexico City. About a two hour journey which drops us off at the Mexico City subway where we hop on the rails, switch trains once, and arrive right in the central area. Then, a bus from there to the airport.

We don't need to rush for any of this because our flight doesn't actually leave until 1:30am Friday morning.

We arrive in Medellin, Colombia at 6:30am Friday morning. We then take a bus into downtown, and then a taxi to our couchsurfing host's house, with the intention of arriving there before she has to leave at 11:30am.

Phew. Let's hope it all goes according to plan!

Today will be spent getting ready. Yesterday to relax, today to get ready, and tomorrow to go!

    1. The flight itself wasn't too long from Mexico City, I think it is about 4 hours long. Hoping to get to Bogota sometime during our 6 weeks but we are really playing things by ear and we will see where that takes us. If you are planning on making Colombia a destination of choice make sure you spell it right, 2 "o's" no "u". They get a little funny about that. ;-)

    1. Boy, we sure needed that day of rest. We were super busy getting Sherman cleaned up and ready to sit by himself for 6 weeks and get ourselves all packed and everything organized and then yesterday was just a very long travel day that only stopped a few hours ago. We are happy to be here now and for the rest of the day we plan on taking it easy and having a nap.

    1. We have written about couchsurfing many times, here is one of our posts explaining a bit more about it, it also includes a link to their website.

We have been members of this organization from way back in 2007 or 2008 and have used it about 50 times all around the world and we have also hosted several times yourselves. We love it and find that it is a great way to connect with the locals and learn more about their area and their culture.
