A good bottle of scotch!

Yesterday afternoon, we took the collectivo back in to town. Ruth wanted to get her hair cut (for the first time in 13 months!) and we wanted to pick up some booze that had been on sale at 20% off. I say had been on sale, because when we got to the store it turns out that the sale ended the day before!

But, that doesn't mean there weren't some deals to be had...

I recognized a bottle of  Old Smuggler, a cheap scotch that I had previously enjoyed. On sale for only 99 pesos ($8.25 CAD). Wow. It costs more than that to buy this particular brand in Scotland!

Kevin, with his Old Smuggler scotch.

It's a very smooth blended scotch. I picked up two bottles, but might have to stock up a little more at that price before we leave here. The reviews even say "Old Smuggler is today an overlooked dram of character and style."

We walked around town a bit, and Ruth finally saw a hairstylist lady that wasn't already busy. She just wanted to trim a couple of inches off the length. She got seated in the chair and then asked how much. "80 pesos", the woman responded. ($6.75 CAD).

Slightly pricey for Mexico, but Valle de Bravo is a slightly more upscale place.

Ruth, getting her hair cut.

With that done, we went and bought a paleta...an ice cream popsicle. There's a popular Mexican franchise called "La Michoacana" that does really nice popsicles and we buy them often when we're in Mexico. Yummy, and only 15 pesos ($1.25 CAD) each.

We walked around a bit and stopped to buy a few more small grocery items, then took the collectivo home.

Watched a movie in the evening...Let's Be Cops from 2014. Supposed to be a comedy, but more stupid than funny. Can't recommend it unless you're really hard up. A couple of laughs, but not worth it.

Odd, but we watched the original Blade Runner with Harrison Ford a few nights ago. Haven't seen it since it came out in 1982! It wasn't as good as I remember it being! Certainly wouldn't give it an 8 out of 10 like the IMBD rating does.

Never made it to the posada last night. A "posada" is a Mexican Christmas tradition that reenacts Joseph and May's search for accommodation prior to baby Jesus being born. There's usually a church service and some food involved.

But we were late getting dinner ready, and by the time it came around we simply didn't feel like going so we stayed in.

You won't get it in time for Christmas now, but they have those Jackery external battery packs on sale again. Exactly the same one that we have...wouldn't hesitate to recommend it...

  1. Very cheap scotch. I bought a bottle of spiced rum (26) and 4 litres of pear cider for Christmas yesterday and it was $50 CAD.

    1. Cheap scotch but decent scotch, at least is according to Kevin. Your rum and pear cider doesn't sound too bad of a price for Canada but it is still expensive. Drink it slowly and enjoy it. :-)

    Beautiful header photo.

  3. Nothing like a good Scotch and especially the price.
Suzie got her hair trimmed yesterday as well couple inches, Still not bad here $14.00 us dollars. At least we have cheap fuel and camping and cheaper booze than Canada.

    1. $14 USD is $20 CAD George. Your idea of "not bad" is different than ours!

  4. Your taste in movies has probably changed since 1982 (33 years ago)!

    1. Yes, and they probably have and we even mentioned that as we were watching the cops movie. Having said that, we really think that many of the comedy movies now a days have gone totally down the drain.

    1. Thank you Leslie and Merry Christmas to you as well.

We are excited to see what lies ahead for 2016. It is always mystery as to what we will end up doing, if for ourselves.

    1. I am assuming that you are talking about the header picture of the Copper Canyon. Glad we were able to bring back some memories then. :-)

  7. Haircuts at most places here in Playa del Carmen are $150 pesos for women, so I think Ruth got a deal! :-)

    1. Yes, but Playa del Carmen deals more with the expat community and the tourists so it is normally a little higher in price. Last year in Puerto Escondido, I was able to get my haircut and eyebrows waxed/shaped plus a tip for 80 pesos, which was the same price I got in Valle de Juarez a couple of years ago. Kevin and I got ours done in the market in Cancun in March of 2014 , Kevin got his done for 30 pesos and mine was 40 pesos. So 90 pesos including tip here is a little more expensive but not by much. And she added a little style to it and blow dried it straight for me.

  8. Blade Runner is one of our favorites! Good deal on the scotch. Heading north? Save one and we can have a few sips!

    1. After watching it this time, we weren't so impressed with it but tastes do change over time.

Not sure if we will be headed your way or not Chris, but perhaps Kevin will save one just in case. ;-)

  9. The only difference between a "good" scotch and a "great" scotch is a couple of ice cubes! I look forward to another Christmas or New Years Eve to share some with you! Merry christmas to you and Ruth!

    1. That is exactly how Kevin is drinking his "great" scotch! :-)
