I wish we knew about this before...

We decided we had better get out and get some exercise, and we had been told of a nice hike in the hills behind where we are parked up, so around 10:30am we set off to try and find the trail.

And we found it! I think this is the fifth time we've been to Valle de Bravo and we never knew this trail existed. It's actually an old road that has obviously not been used as a road for many years.

Oh, I almost forgot to show you this bird pic...

A belted kingfisher.

This fellow sat on top of one of the sailboat masts here at the marina for the longest time. The belted kingfisher spends summers in Canada, and winters in Mexico. This is a smart bird!

So...back to our hike...

The beginning section is still used by somebody with a vehicle, although there is a locked gate at the entrance.

A pretty butterfly along the way.

The road soon becomes a one person path, but you can still tell that it used to be a road.

Another pretty butterfly.

Lots of wildflowers.

It was pretty overgrown in spots, but then a few feet later it would clear up.

And the trail had some nice views of Lago Avandaro.

The trail led to the gated back entrance of a house. Looking at the map later, there are actually three or four houses up there and another road that connects to the main road, but there is no access to the trail from there. So you have to go back down the way you came. Somebody spent an awfully lot of money to build that road at some point in time. I'd like to know the history as to why it's not used any more.

We ended up doing a total of 12 kms (7.5 miles). Nice hike, and I'm glad we found a nearby trail that we can use again.

Today is market day in Valle de Bravo! So, going into town with friends Paco and Oti.
