Not quite the same as being there, but certainly the next best thing!
Also got to speak to my mom and sisters and nephew, and then later we called Ruth's sister and spoke to her and Ruth's dad who was visiting.
Our son Alex is with his girlfriend visiting with some of her family in Phoenix, Arizona. Hopefully we'll get to speak to them today.
Luis and his daughter came over for breakfast. Andrea is only 7 years old, but she loves to cook. So she helped Ruth make pancakes, and we all had pancakes with real Canadian maple syrup for breakfast.
Just as we were finishing, our friends Paco and Oti showed up. One of the reasons we love coming here is because of Paco and Oti. Despite the language difference, we always have a lot of laughs with them!
We had a fun afternoon and evening with them, and Chago and his family came over and we all spent some time together.
Chago, Carmen, Paco, and Oti.
Paco and Oti's dog Blackie. She's such a good girl.
Chago was explaining to us why many Mexicans don't smile for photographs. Apparently the smile is supposed to come from the eyes. Not sure, but I'm not really seeing it in the example below!
C'mon Chago...smile. Even daughter Fatima (3 yrs old on Sunday) is trying to hold back a smile.
That's better!
Chago's wife Carmen with a big smile.
Another gorgeous sunset.
Another feast. Leftovers this time, but just as good as the first time around.
We learned another Spanish word. Recalentado. The direct translation is "reheated", but it means leftovers. And it's a popular thing to invite people for leftovers the day after a big party.
And of course in Mexico, you have to have fireworks of some kind. These are little firecrackers that don't make much noise.
But they make a lot of sparks!
It was a good day. Paco and Oti are here for another four days, so there's going to be a lot more laughs!

Another wonderful Christmas with friends in a warm climate is always fun.
ReplyDeleteYes, it was a great day, only things missing were our families.
DeleteGreat photos, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jan! :-)
DeleteInteresting about the smile thing, explains a lot to me :)
ReplyDeleteThat's what Chago explained to us, not sure if all Mexicans think this way though.
DeleteAlways lots of fun in Mexico!
ReplyDeleteYes, there certainly is! :-)
DeleteGlad you had a good day with friends!
ReplyDeleteYes it was, thank you! Missed sharing it with all of you though. :-(
DeleteGreat smiles! Fireworks here are at a constant, so much so that the greenspace behind the house went up in flames. The fire fighters showed up within 20 minutes and doused the blaze. It smoldered for three more days!
ReplyDeleteThis is Mexico and they love their fireworks, it is definitely something you have to get used to here. It's the really big bang ones that always get me because you don't know when they are coming but as soon as you hear them you end up jumping in the air from where you are sitting. ;-)
DeleteGlad that the fire didn't spread any further.
Looks like a merry Christmas:) We would sure miss our techno gear if it disappeared!
ReplyDeleteIt was a wonderful day. Yes, we would really miss the technology if it just disappeared. It has made this kind of lifestyle very easy to live.
DeleteIsn't technology awesome!
ReplyDeleteA smile comes from the mouth and eyes. Their second photo is beautiful.
In Texas they shoot fireworks off on Christmas Day.
Most of the time we love the technology but there are times when you just want to throw it out the window! ;-)
DeleteYes, I really love that one too!
