Well that was fun day!

Around 9:30am yesterday morning, we were sitting at our laptops when we noticed some activity going on out front. A truck had arrived and they were unloading some tables and chairs. We knew right away what this meant. There was going to be some kind of fiesta!

Our friend Chago (who owns this marina) often rents out the green space overlooking the waterfront to various groups. Sometimes wedding parties, or family reunions. Whatever. So we wondered what it would be this time! It's usually a good party, and we have often been invited just because we happen to be here.

They set up a tent and everything...

Oh, I promised you a short video of where we are set up. In behind us is a little congested. This is a marina, but the boats are all pulled out of the water when the people are finished using them. Then, there's a covered storage area in behind us. But in front of us is a beautiful view of the lake and the hills surrounding the town of Valle de Bravo.

As the afternoon wore on, people started arriving.

It turned out that this was a group of local teachers who were having their Christmas party. We didn't go over until later on when the music started.

Sherman, enjoying a beautiful sunset.

Guess who??

Even got up and did some dancing!

Ruth, with our friend Chago. He is a better dancer than me!

Monday through Friday it's pretty quiet around here. But a lot of the well off folks from both Toluca and Mexico City have weekend homes here and so Saturdays and especially Sundays the area gets a lot busier. We're looking forward to seeing our friends Paco and Oti when they come up from Toluca tomorrow!

Every now and again, Amazon.com comes out with a great deal on a quality pair of binoculars. Today is one of those times!

And in Canada, a one day sale on the classic Swiss Army pocket knife...

    1. I am thinking that there will be a few more events happening while we are here that we will be invited too. We love seeing how the locals live and celebrate.

    1. Thank you Emily, that has been our nicest sunset yet since we have arrived back. It seems we either get a good one or nothing at all when it comes to sunsets here.

  3. Looks like a great party. Loved your trip to Columbia.
What are the GPS coordinates for your present location?

    1. Yes, thanks Dinah. :-)

Garth, right now we are at 19.224748, -100.139092 but if you're looking it up on Google Maps keep in mind that the water level fluctuates quite a lot over the years and while it is quite high just now, on the Google Maps satellite image it was extremely low.

    1. Actually most of the group were gone shortly after eating, only the diehards stuck around to the end, and we weren't the diehards either!

  6. Can you give us an idea of the monthly costs for a spot there - no hookups needed - just water fill-up. (We have the Nature's Head Compost Toilet and plenty of solar power, etc.) Also, what about storage if we want to leave and go visit Guatemala??
And as you make your Tour with the Rally, can you point out other possible spots for self-contained campers similar to Sherman in size? And comment on internet? That will be one of our issues as well.
Can't tell you how much we enjoy your blog - NEVER MISS IT! Merry Christmas to you and all the "Regulars" - we appreciate your comments and info as well!! Jerry and Becky aboard Traveling Shoes II

    1. Unfortunately we can't yet help you with how much it costs for a dry camping spot here. We asked the owner before we left for Colombia how much he was going to charge us and he said "I'll have to think about that" and we asked him again yesterday and still don't have an answer.

He some some other rental accommodation here (apartment, small house, and travel trailer) and I'm going to get those prices out of him and list a contact number as well. Stay tuned...

As for internet, we always buy a Telcel SIM card for our internet stick, however we have an iPhone now and so we bought the card for that this time around. We get 3 GB of data for 399 pesos ($33 CAD).

  9. We have encountered this hospitality more times then not. They are super friendly people and like to include you even when they don't know you. We love to watch the sunset here, but many times it is a non event. That was our first pretty sunset since arriving back to Sherman.
