From the time we first arrived in December of 2010, we were welcomed by the owner Santiagao (nickname "Chago") and his family. Later, we also met some of the other regular visitors who have now also become friends.
The marina is a family business, and Santiago has slowly expanded the boating base of operations to include camping and rental accomodation.
The RV parking is not what you would call structured. There are usually two other motorhomes parked here somewhat permanently and they have both installed their own sewer hookups. Usually you will be able to access one of them to use as a dump station when you leave.
If you're just staying for a short time, (a week or less) you can probably just park on the grass overlooking the lake. It's a beautiful spot, and we've done that ourselves a couple of different times.
Sherman, camping on the front lawn back in December 2010.
The front lawn as it looks today. Lots of room for camping! I would say maximum rig size 32'.
He also has an old travel trailer for rent. Better than sleeping in a tent!
Rent this old trailer for 150 pesos a night, or 500 pesos per week.
When you bring your own RV or tent, Santiago charges 100 pesos ($8.30 CAD) per night for camping. You can even run an extension cord for electric if you like. Longer term stays are negotiable. For example, the normal monthly rate runs about 2,000 pesos ($166 CAD). For longer stays, you may not be able to park on the grass or you might have to move every now and then because once or twice a month he rents out the grass area for weddings or parties.
He also has a small apartment for rent. It's located above the marina office.
The apartment is located up the spiral staircase that you see towards the right of this picture.
There is one double bed, a bathroom and shower, and a kitchen. Your living space is actually the balcony overlooking the lake!
Relaxing on the balcony.
The photo above was taken in 2013, the year the lake level was very low. It has since recovered!
Inside the apartment.
The apartment rents for 200 pesos ($16.60 CAD) per day, 1,200 pesos ($100 CAD) per week, or 3,000 pesos ($250 CAD) per month.
It is currenty sitting empty.
Santiago is also building a full size house that will be furnished and also be for rent. It's not ready yet, but he says that it will be ready for February 1st. This is Mexico, so that may or may not happen, but he does sound confident.
As I said, its not ready but here are some photos in it's current state...
Parking and entrance door.
Staircase
Upstairs living room.
View out to the deck overlooking the water.
On the deck.
Beautiful views, and the house will be very nice when finished. Santiago would prefer a rental term with a minimum of one month, and the price is 5,000 pesos ($415 CAD) per month for the whole house. If it's sitting empty, he will consider shorter lengths of stay.
There is no English spoken here. You can call Santiago to speak with him, but you had better know at least enough Spanish to be able to ask the questions and understand the answers. Cell 722-158-7371 or the office at 726-262-4987.
Otherwise, simply show up...he will do his best to accommodate you!
The entrance to the marina is located at GPS 19.225951, -100.138840

The very best RV holding tank treatment...
And in Canada, a top quality food processor...today only!
I love the look of that little apartment - a great place to stay if you were traveling by car. The house is looking very beautiful too - things seem prosperous there.
ReplyDeleteYou don't have to be traveling by car. If you were to fly into Mexico City you just take a bus to get to Valle de Bravo and then a taxi or you can take a bus right from Mexico City to Colorines and get off right in front of the marina. After that you can just travel around by collectivo taxi to do any sightseeing in the area just like we do. Having your own car would be nice but not a necessity.
DeleteLooks like a great place to stay and very reasonable too.
ReplyDeleteWe have camped with the RV and stayed in the apartment and yes, it's a great place to stay. Lots to do in the area too.
DeleteAgree with Awesome... looks very nice.
ReplyDeleteI think you would love this area, lots of bird life right in front of us.
DeleteCouple questions. Is there fishing in the lake that is any good; and are boats suitable for fishing available to rent?
ReplyDeleteYes, people are out fishing all the time. Don't ask me what they catch...a fisherman, I am not! I am sure Santiago would be able to set you up with a suitable boat.
DeleteGreat views of the lake. The apartment bedroom looks great, what a deal! The new house is going to be great, I'll be waiting to see what the price is!
ReplyDeleteI mentioned the price above...he prefers a minimum one month rental at 5,000 pesos per month.
DeleteI must admit, at just US$114 a month for dry camping, it does sound pretty tempting! I love the fact that no English is spoken.
ReplyDeleteIt is a wonderful spot. Lots to see and do in the area. We love the fact no English is spoken too other than "Hello" "Thank you very much" and "Sorry". :-) On the weekends some of the people coming from Mexico City or Toluca can speak English but that is it.
DeleteHi Kevin - Can't remember if there is any internet or is it just through your telcel?
ReplyDeleteNo, our internet is through our own Telcel cellular connection. 399 pesos for 3 GB or 30 days whichever comes first.
DeleteLooks like Santiago is on track to a wonderful investment. The place looks great.
ReplyDeleteHe is working hard all the time making improvements here. It is one of our favourite places in Mexico.
DeleteThat house is going to be fabulous and what views.
ReplyDeleteYes, it will!
DeleteExcellent suggestion and very helpful information. This weekend my wife and me are going to spend some days camping.
ReplyDeleteThanks !!
I hope that your camping will be near Valle de Bravo then! :-)
DeleteHe have spent a weekend camping at Santiago's place and it was perfect. He is a very kind person and the place is awesome!!!!
DeleteThanks for the recommendation.
Thank you for letting us know that you had a great time there. They are a wonderful family and very welcoming people. We hope that you will return back there again some day, maybe even when we are there visiting. ;-)
