After that, it was only about 80 kms (50 miles) to our destination.
It's all two lane highway to Guanajuato, but it was a lot busier than we remember it being the last time we were on this road five years ago.
The highway.
Scenery along the way.
Passing through a town.
We had been to Bugamville RV Park in December of 2010...more than five years ago. Well a lot has changed in five years! We found the entrance with no problem, even though there is now a large commercial building built on the highway out front.
Pulled in to the nearly empty RV Park. There was only one other rig here, a class B van with Michigan plates. There is probably room for about 35 rigs here, parked fairly close together. I made my way to the far end...Sherman likes his space!
I got us parked and levelled up and went in to the office.
As I said, we were here five years ago. In fact, I looked it up...it was November 30, 2010...
At the time, the rate was 170 pesos and we paid 150 because we weren't hooked up to his electricity. This time, I saw the price on the wall...it's now 280 pesos!
Again, we're not using electricity so we're paying 250 pesos ($20.00 CAD) per night. Pretty pricey for what you get. And no internet supplied, so we're on our own cellular connection once again. But unfortunately, this is the only game in town for anybody wanting to explore the city of Guanajuato.
On the other side of that wall is a construction equipment place. Lots of heavy trucks coming and going during working hours.
Sherman, in the big field.
The laundry building. We'll find out today if we have to pay extra to use the washing machine!
We get the impression that this place exists mainly to service the three or four RV caravans that come through each winter. It's certainly not a park that anybody would stay at for any length of time. Just enough to explore Guanajuato, then get out.
And of course that's the only reason that we're here. So we paid up for three nights until the rest of the group arrives here on Friday. Although had I realized what the price was, we may not have arrived quite this early. But now that we're here, it wasn't worth searching for somewhere else.
So...for the next month, we're going to be leading a group of 10 other RV's through some of the most interesting parts of Colonial Mexico. We've been to all of these places before, but it'll be fun to see them again, and to show them to a group of people who have never seen the area.
The caravan is part of the Caravanas de Mexico RV Tours. This tour departed Nogales, Arizona on January 9th and is an 82 day tour. We're taking over leading the group for 30 days of that 82 day tour.
There will be seven stops along the way. Guanajuato, Cuitzeo, Patzcuaro, Villa Corona, Jocotopec, Mazamitla, and ending on the beach at Melaque March 3rd.
There are a lot of tours included in the caravan. We'll be going to see the monarch butterflies, a few hot springs, some pyramids...and a few dinners and meetings with local dignitaries are included as well. It's going to be some work making sure that 20 people are always enjoying themselves, but this is Mexico...how could you not be having fun!?
Here's the approximate route for the next month...1,000 kms (620 miles).
It should be fun...I hope you follow along with us every day!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The very popular Instant Pot is on sale again...
And in Canada, the top quality Kitchen Aid mixer is one sale...today only!
Not a pretty park indeed. We are very much looking forward to the next month's adventure. Safe travels.
ReplyDeleteNope, we aren't really impressed with the park especially for the price! So are we Peter, actually we are pretty excited about it.
DeleteNo Dinah, this is our first time ever being involved with a caravan of any sort. We had met Paul once or twice before though, so he knew about us and the amount of travel that we have done here in Mexico. It looks like it is a very good company to deal with and they have everything sorted out along with lots of tours. From talking to the people on the caravan, they have been very pleased with what they have seen so far, and they are a wonderful bunch of people.
DeleteSounds like you will be enjoying yourselves for sure.
ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure we will be enjoying ourselves!
DeleteI think you are pretty brave taking on the herding of 20 different people to keep them entertained. But I know you guys will be great and I look forward to the adventure.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it will be hard to keep them entertained, the tour operator has lots of tours and activities lined up for them that when we aren't doning any of these assigned events people will probably just want to sit back and relax a little. We are looking forward to this new adventure though.
DeleteSounds like a super month coming up. No doubt many people will benefit by your expertise. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dianne, we are looking forward to this coming month and to showing these people why Mexico is such a wonderful country.
DeleteWise I could do the trip. Hope you have fun. I will be following you.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could do one some other year. I hope that we can do convince others to come on down too! :-)
DeleteI am surprised that the Caravan does stop in Morelia. We found it a very nice city. Where do you go to see the butterflies
ReplyDeleteWe don't do an actual campground stop in Morelia, instead we will be near a town called Cuitzeo and then do a bus tour into Morelia for a day. We will also have to drive around Morelia when we head to Patzcuaro. Same thing with the butterflies, we do a bus tour from our campground near Cuitzeo up to the Butterfly Reserve at Ocampo/El Rosario. We have been there before with Sherman so we are looking forward to a return visit.
DeleteSounds like quite the adventure. Been over 20 years since I traveled in Mexico,to the north, central and east. Didn't find many RV Parks in most areas. Hope some of the next stops offer more than a large field next to construction trucks.
ReplyDeleteThere are actually quite a lot of RV parks in Mexico now but not all of them are real nice and some of the nicer ones are VERY expensive. If we were going to be traveling by ourselves we probably would have have somewhere other than this RV park for the price they charge you really don't get much but it was nice to empty our tanks at least.
DeleteI am the wagon master that kevin & rith will be reliving for 28 days to give my wife a chance to come down & relax (She is on Chemo at home). THi sis by far the best group of customers I ahve ever led. Not a bad egg among them and they are very social and loving every minute of it. Unlike some trips they all co-operate & handle the highway well. Not sure if they will still feel the same after 28 days of Kevin & Ruth, LOL.
ReplyDeleteI am sure it willbe a mutally pleasant experience. After already leading one caravan this season, I had had enough, but I am thoroughly enjoying this particular group.
We are looking forward to meeting up with everyone on Friday and to our month ahead. We are sure that we are all going to have a fantastic 4 weeks together.
DeleteWe have friends who are on a caravan tour in Mexico right now, but I don't know what company it is. Maybe they will be in your group!
ReplyDeleteWho knows maybe it is the same group. What are their names?
DeleteWe think it would be a blast being on your tour. We look forward to traveling with y'all.
ReplyDeleteThanks Paul and Marsha! We hope that we will all have a great time together, which we are pretty confident that we all will. :-)
DeleteCan't wait for you guys to get the caravan on the road.
ReplyDeleteThanks Chris, we can't either. We are eagerly looking forward to meeting everyone tomorrow (Friday).
DeleteI know it's going to be a great tour. Sounds like a bit of work though so I hope they are paying you well.
ReplyDeleteWe are sure it will be a great tour too. We don't think it is a lot of work because most of it has all been organized for us, we just have to make sure to get everyone where we are going and make sure they all have a great time. And, help sort out any problems along the way which we know we can handle.
