We had done this walk the last time we were here in November of 2011, and we remembered a lot of snakes that we could see from walking along the side of the road. Strangely, this time we didn't see any!
But first, we had to make our way through the swimming area. It's really busy here on weekends, but fairly quiet during the week, and they don't bother to fill all of the pools.
There was some kind of seniors exercise group doing their thing.
Only a short walk away is the marsh.
We think the pink birds are rose colored spoonbills.
And a few pelicans.
Lot of birds!
No idea what this is.
And we've seen oneof these before, but I can't remember the name!
We walked back to the RV Park and one of the group was having problems with their hot water heater, and they couldn't get it to work on either gas or electric. I did some tests and came to the conclusion that the main circuit board had gone bad, but there is no way to test it for sure without having the proper equipment. And I thought about borrowing one from a similar rig, but that could cause two boards to go bad if there is a short of some kind somewhere. Not likely, but not worth taking the chance.
Later in the afternoon, Ruth went for a swim with some others from the RV caravan group, while I had a nap!

And of course John, testing out our underwater camera. It works, but do things look a little more distorted than normal??
Today, Friday February 19th, we did a tour to the town of Tequila. I bet you can't guess what it's famous for??!!

DeleteWhen you can, take the board into town to an electronics shop and they can check it. If that's the problem they can fix it.

DeleteLast bird is an Ibis (long curved bill), pink ones definitely appear to be Roseate Spoonbills (even though I can't see the bills), the white one with the duck is an Egret, and I believe the duck is a Northern Shoveler based on the appearance of his bill (shovel-like). Great birding there!
ReplyDeleteThanks Emily, we had seen that last one in Colombia I believe. Those are definitely Roseate Spoonbills, I couldn't remember the Roseate part but I knew they were spoonbills as well as the Egret. Definitely couldn't have named the duck. Now all we need is the name of that little bird. :-)
DeleteI believe the unknown bird is in the Rail family, but I don't know which species.
ReplyDeleteI looked up Rails in my Sibley Guide and it appears it is a Sora. They are widely disbursed across Mexico in the winter.
