It was nice to have a rest day without any driving. We've been missing out on getting some regular exercise, so we had a hike planned for the afternoon. But first, Ruth had a job to do...
When we got Sherman's front curtains made when we were in Queretaro, we were happy with the job. But they had made the hem too short for our liking. Not their fault, because we had told them where to put the hem. But when we got them installed, we found them too short. There was still lots of material available at the bottom, so Ruth decided to take out the hem and make it longer.
And fortunately, Grace and Steve have a sewing machine!
Grace and Ruth, working on the curtains. (Happy Sherman...they turned out great!)
I kept busy playing with Gretchen the dog!
It was a perfect day, with lots of sunshine.
Ruth and Grace made a quiche with a corn tortilla crust.
Lunch is served. Yummy!
After lunch, Grace, Ruth, and I went for a drive about 17 miles (27 kms) away to the Madera Canyon. Really pretty area, and several choices of hiking trails. We chose the Madera Canyon nature trail, a 3.6 mile (5.8 km) return trip.
Out on the trail.
Kevin and Grace.
Looking up at the mountains.
"Old Baldy" (Mt. Wrightson). You can hike to the top.
Ruth and I will come back another time and do that one! Still patches of snow up there.
Admiring the scenery.
Beautiful area.
Looking back towards Green Valley.
Back home around 5:00pm and we had a nice dinner and lots of fun conversation. What a perfect day we had. Thanks to Grace and Steve for looking after us so well!
Steve, Grace, Ruth, Kevin, and Gretchen.
But, we need to get back on the road. Los Angeles is still 500 miles (800 kms) away and we want to be there by Tuesday afternoon.

The very best!
I have jotted down the hiking trail....I love to hike too! What a beautiful area.
ReplyDeleteIt was a lovely hike and there are many, many other great hikes in the area as well!
DeleteGrace and Ruth look like they could be sisters. Madera Canyon is a birding hotspot in AZ.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same thing! (re Grace and Ruth) What a pretty area.
DeleteLooking at the pictures I can see why you would say that! We saw some birds but not many, having said that we weren't really out their looking for them either. We definitely saw other people out birding, though. I wish we could have spent more time in the area, there would have been lots of hikes that would have loved to have done.
DeleteGorgeous scenery. Safe travels.
ReplyDeleteYes it was, we wish we had the time to stay in the area longer.
DeleteAnd we had a perfect day, too! What fun! We can't wait until we can get together again. May this great weather follow you all the way home. Stay safe and have a great time in LA!
ReplyDeleteThank you once again Grace and Steve for you hospitality and friendship, we had a great time. :-)
DeleteI hope this weather will follow us as well, especially for when my cousin and her husband arrive.
More fun with friends, Safe travels.
ReplyDeleteAnother great day, for sure!
DeleteAlways good when there's enough material left over for "letting things out". I know this from some *ahem* trouser issues.
ReplyDeleteHappy Motoring.
We were very happy that the guy who made the curtains had left such a large hem! We don't understand why but in this case it worked out great. Now that the curtains are back up they look perfect! :-)
DeleteOld Baldy looks pretty much like what we passed through on Hwy 57 through San Luis Potosi this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteYep, I bet it does! That is such a wonderful area there and here but then we do love the mountains. ;-)
DeleteGet ready for a shock when you see the price of gas in CA
ReplyDeletePlanned in advance. Just filled up at the Arizona/California border and hoping to not have to buy any in California. Or at least just enough to get us out of the state.
