Lots of fun staying with Tamara and Mike, but you better be prepared to get some exercise! We've now hiked 18 miles (29 kms) over two days! Sure feels good to get back into it.
This time, we went to Chino Hills State Park and did the Telegraph Trail.
Tamara and Ruth.
Kevin and Mike.
Some nice views.
Another blue sky day. Perfect temps for hiking.
A few wildflowers coming out.
Still some snow at higher elevations.
Out on the trail.
Almost done.
7 miles (11 kms), done by noon. Then back to their place and cleaned up and had a shower, and then off for something to eat.
Ready for lunch!
Then, back to the motorhome to give Sherman a bit of a clean up to get ready for visitors. Ruth's cousin Helen and her husband Tony live in England, and are spending the next two weeks with us exploring southern California and their plane was scheduled to arrive at 5:20pm at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
We borrowed Tamara and Mike's car (thanks again guys!), and headed out at 4:15pm. It's only 40 miles (64 kms) from their place to the airport, but with the traffic and rush hour we figured we needed some extra time.
Arrived LAX at 5:30pm. I had figured on dropping off Ruth at the terminal and then I was going to go to the cell phone parking lot to wait for a call from Ruth when she had collected Helen and Tony. But the area was a nightmare of cars, buses, and taxis and I couldn't even get the car pulled over to the side to drop her off!
So eventually I just gave up and pulled into the parking garage.
Went inside and waited at the international arrival area. Hundreds of other people waiting, and hundreds of people coming in to be greeted as well. What a zoo!
We watched and waited for about an hour before they finally came out of the immigration area.
Went to the car park area, and upon exiting we were surpised that the charge was only $5.00 USD ($6.50 CAD). Reasonably priced airport parking? In Los Angeles? Who would've thought?
And then, another hour or so drive back to Sherman. Of course they were zonked after their 11 hour flight, and an 8 hour time change. But they still managed to stay up for a couple of beer and a glass of wine.
Great to see them again, and there's going to be lots of laughs over the next couple of weeks.
Today, we're moving Sherman to an RV "resort" near Palm Springs. Sherman will be spoiled. I don't think we've ever paid $45 USD ($58 CAD) for an RV parking spot in over eight years of RV'ing. Oh well, we're on holiday for the next two weeks!

Thanks again to those of you who remember to come back here to do your Amazon shopping. You pay the same price that you would anyhow, but we make a small commission!
And for our Canadian readers...
I think every park has a trail named Telegraph. Looks like a beauty.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weeks of fun
You are probably right. The one going up had a different name and it was definitely better, we had some great views from it!
DeleteInteresting... We live on Telegraph Trail in Langley BC. Have a great holiday!

DeleteGuess there really are a lot of Telegraph trails out there!
Sherman might start to expect this kind of treatment all the time :-) Have fun on your holiday at the RV resort.
ReplyDeleteI think that he knows it is a special occasion! He really enjoys our boondocking experiences better! :-)
DeleteWalking poles are becoming quite popular! Say Hi to Helen and Tony!
ReplyDeleteYes, they are and I have even thought about getting them, more for the downhill part though. Helen and Tony both say hi back to you!
DeleteHoly is that $58 a night???? WOW!!!! ACK!!!
ReplyDeleteyep, pretty expensive in our eyes but when it is split between us it isn't so bad!
DeleteHaha, welcome to busy-busy Southern California! At least you were able to pick up your kinfolk and not get stranded on the freeway, always a good thing! Enjoy the Palm Springs/desert area, even if it is expensive! Heck, you only live once!
ReplyDeleteYes, it was a bit of a zoo, especially at the airport and to think that we have to do it again in two weeks.
DeleteOther than the RV park, we haven't found it expensive but then we also haven't done anything that is expensive since we arrived.
That would be only $14.50 a night with the 4 of you in Sherman.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your vacation.
Yes, when it is dived between the 2 couples it does make it a little more affordable.
DeleteWhile you are in the Palm Springs area try to make it over to Mecca and try the "Ladders" hike. While it is only about a 5 mile loop, i think you will find it quite interesting.
ReplyDeleteWe won't be making it over there while we are in Palms Springs but perhaps when we drive from Joshua Tree down to San Diego we might try out part of the hike. It looks like one we would love but unfortunately Helen wouldn't be able to handle it with her leg so we are trying to do things that can involve all of us.
