We started off at Dana Point, where I had found free parking near the big marina there. We had fun looking at all of the boats and seeing how the rich people live!
The Dana Point Marina contains 1,400 boats!
Boats of all sizes, big and small.
It costs between $250 and $1,800 per month to keep your boat here, depending on it's size. I guess it's similar to an RV park. We think we'll stick to rv'ing on the land! I've heard people who own boats say that a boat is just a big hole in the water that you throw money in to!
Some nice ones for sale.
This one would pay close to $1,800 a month to park here.
Lots of boats!
This one is a 2012 model, 75 feet long. Only $3,000,000 to buy a used boat!
We couldn't afford to put fuel in it!
Ruth, Tony, and Helen.
We got back in the car, and saw a road that went up a hill at the point. It offered a beautiful view back at the marina, and there was some conservation land up there too, with a short hiking trail.
The Dana Point Marina.
Looking north from Dana Point.
You can see on the lower right that someone has developed the property along this beach. The homes are still being constructed. There are still three empty lots, so you better act quick if you want one!
It was 1:00pm by the time we finished there, and got back in the car. Our stomachs were telling us that it was time for lunch. We searched out a Thai restaurant that was nearby, but found out it was temporarily closed. Found another one in nearby Laguna Beach, and it was supposed to be open for lunch, but it was closed too. A delivery guy was there, and he said the guy only opens for dinner now. He told us about another Thai restaurant further down the road.
We arrived there, to find the prices too high for our liking. $13 USD ($17 CAD) per person, plus a tip. For lunch? No thanks.
Couldn't find anything else in the area that was in our price range. However, we had been to Ruby's Shake Shack twice already, and it was only a few miles further up the road. We all agreed that was the place to go for our last meal together, and likely our last meal out for a long time since Ruth and I will be back to our normal schedule tomorrow!
Yummy date shake!
We decided we had all had enough after that, and so we headed back to the campground and arrived around 4:00pm. Just a nice day, with no traffic headaches. We bought some firewood, and decided to have an evening campfire.
Sherman's campsite.
Ruth had a bag of birdseed and had spread some around. This bird wanted the whole bag!
Park wildlife. He wanted the bird seed too!
Kevin and Helen and our campfire.
Just another nice day.
Helen and Tony fly out this evening, so it's our last day together. We're just going to hang around the campground for the day, and Ruth is making a big pot roast meal for lunch. Then, we will leave to drive to LAX around 3:00pm this afternoon to drop off Helen and Tony. That'll probably take 2 hours (!), and then another two hours back.
Then tomorrow, Ruth and I will drop off the red Beetle, and head Sherman northeast to the Nevada border. Then, Utah for a week or so!

Another wonderful day , your company is leaving already? Wow that was a busy time that went pretty quick.
ReplyDeleteThey were with us for two full weeks. Time flies when you're having fun!
DeleteIt's hard to believe it's been 2 weeks already. I hope everyone enjoyed their visit! Utah, eh? Oh boy!
ReplyDeleteI know that's the way we feel, it just went by way too fast! We all enjoyed the visit a lot and are hoping to get together again next year. :-)
DeleteLooking forward to Utah, it is such a fantastic state.
You packed a whole lot of fun in the past two weeks with your company. Safe travels as you all "head home!"
ReplyDeleteWe sure did and I am sure they will be happy to be at home again just for a rest! ;-)
DeleteTwo weeks certainly flies by too quickly when you're having fun. Thanks for letting us tag along!
ReplyDeleteYes, it does and we all wished that their visit could have been longer!
DeleteIt's sad to see them go, you've been having so much fun together.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a sad time at the airport yesterday as we said our farewells to each other but we are already planning on getting together next year. :-)
DeleteSounds like you and they had a great time together - now the big drive back to Canada
ReplyDeleteWe had a fantastic time together! :-)
DeleteYes, now our drive back home but first a few fun days in Utah.
When do you start "WORK " at Crabi. Where are you going in UT.
ReplyDeleteWe start work May 1st but are hoping on arriving there either April 28th or 29th.
DeleteWe are going to spend a bit of time at Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef National Parks.
That blue bird is a Western Scrub Jay.
ReplyDeleteI figured it was a jay just didn't know what type and didn't have good internet in order to find out. Thanks for letting us know.
DeleteWe love Dana point. We had our boat there when we left for our first Mexico cruise. We headed for Cabo the up into the Sea of Vortex an then down the Mexican mainland. That is when we fell in love with Mexico and her people. Now that we are older we do it in our RV. Next season we plan to really see Mexico not just go to a beach resort for the season. I am fairly new to your blog and I am going back, way back to determine what we can't miss next season. Thanks for the Dana point memories.
ReplyDeleteWe really enjoyed wandering around Dana Point and looking at all the boats, big and small. Sounds like you had a nice cruise went you went around Baja and down mainland Mexico.
DeleteWe love mainland Mexico and try to stay away from the beach and the resort areas. First off we are generally only good for about 2 weeks by the beach because it is too hot for us and the bugs really bother us. We love the interior so much better. Don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions that we might be able to help you with.
