A visit to Bali, Indonesia

Bali is the most popular island for tourists who visit Indonesia. The country of Indonesia itself is actually made up of over 13,000 islands and is the fourth most populated country in the world, with over 260 million people! Only China, India, and the United States have a higher population of people.

And why do people visit Bali?

Because of it's green forested jungles, white sand beaches, cultural attractions, and crystal clear scuba diving waters. The very diverse geography of the island of Bali includes two active volcanos. And there are many hiking trails on the island that you can take advantage of because the climate is very mild year round.

There is a huge variety of accomodations available on the island of Bali. It has become popular to rent a "villa" and you can get one equipped with as many as 30 staff to service your every need. Or on the other end of the scale, you can rent a hammock and sleep on the beach!

Or like most people, you can simply stay at a nice hotel like the Fontana Hotel Bali. You can find rentals such as this or any number of other possibilities through the travel site at Traveloka.com.

People like to go Scuba Diving in Bali. There are a number of world renowned scuba sites, like the famous USS Liberty, an American military vessel that was hit by a Japanese torpedo in 1942 and was beached on Bali. Now, it is an underwater museum, and a very popular dive site.

Although Indonesia is typically a Muslim society, the island of Bali itself is 90% Hindu. The temples of Bali are often hundreds of years old and some people say that there are more temples in Bali than there are homes! Of course many temples are simply shrines, but even then the architecture of them is something to behold. There are supposedly over 10,000 temples on the island of Bali.

Balinese cuisine should be fine with most visitors. Of course due to it's Hindu culture, you won't find beef on the menu in very many places. But pork, fish, and chicken, blended with a huge variety of spices and fresh vegetables should satisfy your hunger. And of course a side dish of that primary grain rice which is always a staple to be served with anything.

And then of course there are the beaches.

Bali's beaches are among the most beautiful in the world. Of course there are a lot of popular tourist beaches, but it's also easy to get off the beaten path and find your very own secluded spot to waste the day away. How about the coastal caves of Green Bowl Beach...?

It's easy to see why Bali is a popular place to visit. I'm sure it will show up on our list of places to see one of these years coming up!

  1. My friend and her daughter were there in Feb. and found it very hot. They rented a villa which had a swimming pool. The beach was at the bottom of a hill so only went occasionally because of the heat.

    1. Guess they were lucky that they had a swimming pool at the villa. I think if it was that hot, Kevin and I would be headed inland and to higher ground if that is possible in Bali.

  2. Bali was lovely, we loved most things about it. The heat can be a bit much at times. Just plan on some relaxing pool times. Also plan for at least five days in Sinapore before you go to Bali. It is a lovely city, busy but interesting.

    1. Sounds like a plan. One day we will make it to both Bali and to Singapore.
