Great first day back on the road!

Spent yesterday morning doing the final lockup of the park. Shut the water off to the main house and concession building and got the last of our belongings moved in to Sherman.

Did a final check around, and at 12:30pm we pulled out. Only a half an hour behind schedule...not bad!

Stopped in the town of Cabri to drop off the keys, and we were on our way. 45 minutes later we were in Swift Current to pick up a few groceries and some booze.

Yes, we broke our booze vow and bought some expensive Canadian alcohol. I was going to pick up some beer, but I simply couldn't justify the price. $60.00 CAD ($47 USD, or 900 pesos!!) for 24 bottles of Corona. Unreal. Even the cheap beer is $2.00 a piece.

So, we'll survive on wine until we get to Quebec where beer prices are a little more civilized.

Two, 4 litre boxes of wine...for $69 CAD ($53 USD). Still ridiculous, but you do what you have to do.

Saskatchewan scenery on the Trans Canada Highway.

Unfortunately there's no other logical route east. We're pretty much stuck on the 4 lane highway. Put the cruise control on at 90 km/h (55 mph) and relax.

Didn't see the sun at all, and even had a couple of showers that we drove through. Fortunately though, we had a pretty strong tailwind to help us along!

Yep, miles of nothing.

The Trans Canada highway goes through what is probably the most unscenic part of Saskatchewan.

Kevin, happy to be back on the road!

We arrived in the city of Moose Jaw (pop 35,000) right around 5:00pm. Our friends Wendy and Phil have a farm just outside of town, and we were going to park up there for the night but they had quite a bit of rain the last few days and the road was really muddy. So they suggested we meet them at their apartment in town.

We found a parking spot right outside their building, and Sherman had to parallel park himself on the main street outside their building. Even have a decent unsecured wifi signal from the nearby health center that we can pick up with our BearExtender wifi signal booster.

Canada's National aerobatic flying team,  The Snowbirds, practices out of the Canadian air force base at Moose Jaw.

Sherman and the big moose at Moose Jaw.

Nice to see Wendy and Phil again. They just got back from a two and a half month trip to Newfoundland in their little class B motorhome. So it was fun to hear their stories about that. We cobbled together a supper between the four of us and had a nice meal.

We decided to sleep in the motorhome right where he was parked beside the road right in downtown Moose Jaw! Not the most scenic, but it was convenient. Slept fine.

Yesterday's drive, 259 kms (160 miles).

Not sure where we're spending tonight, but I had scoped out a free boondocking spot near the town of Broadview, Saskatchewan so we'll see if it's suitable when we get there.

The Rhinoflex sewer hose just keeps getting cheaper. I think there must be a pricing error or something...

And in Canada, the Instant Pot is on sale. Very popular with RV'ers. Not much of a discount, but it hasn't been on sale for a while, and this is certainly better than paying regular price...

    1. Yes they are crazy and one of the several reasons that during the summer months here in Canada we don't drink but we decided to break that rule and indulge for a change and to celebrate being back on the road again. :-)

    1. Kevin can't believe how cheap it is getting. It seems to be going down by a penny every time one is bought! He is wondering how low it can actually go before they stop lowering the price.

  5. Either you or Ruth did a great job on the photo of the moose and Sherman. The giant size of the moose compared to the size of Sherman is unbelievable. Whoever created the moose statue is very good. Did he or she create it in iron?

    1. Kevin took the picture and yes, he did a great job. The moose is made from concrete and steel and stands 32' tall and weighs about 10 tons and was completed in 1984. Oh, and his name is Mac! :-)

  6. Another great year at Cabri under your belt - it seems like it gets a little easier each year?

    1. Yes, another year done and you are right the closing up is getting easier but it is always a rush right at the end, with shutting water off to the trailer and getting it all cleaned up before we close it up. Now we can start to relax and take things a little easier. :-)

  7. It must feel great to be back on the road to adventure! Love your header photo with the moose. I love towns that have some sort of distinguishing feature to welcome people like that. Have fun and safe travels!

    1. It feels sooooo good! :-)

So many of the little towns here in Saskatchewan have something that is interesting about them. We saw a few more on yesterday's travels! It is amazing really, if you just drive by the town on the highway you think to yourself, "why would anyone live here in the middle of nowhere" or "what a boring little town that looks like" but once you go into the town itself, many times you will find some nice little surprises. People need to take time to stop and check out some of these towns instead of just driving by!

  8. Yay, back on the road! Kevin, do you not like using your armrest when driving? Just wondering. You would be proud of us -- we are staying in our first ever free campsite in our RV travels in the US. It's a city park in Nebraska, but they do accept donations, and we will leave one, because we have a 50 amp hookup; it's only fair. Those Canadian beer prices are criminal!

    1. Yes...I do like the armrest. Sometimes I just forget to put it down.

We are proud of you Emily! Free is the best kind of camping!

Yes, the beer prices in some provinces are ridiculous. But, we have "free" healthcare.

  9. We fixed lunch there and took a nap. Nice visitor's center. As for the wine, you deserve it. I hope you had a couple of glasses.

  10. Hi Ruth,

It's really mystical, that you we are both "back-on-the-road on the same day. Oh, God, Ruth. I am sooooo happy about FullTiming again! 😍
