It would have been cheaper to fly.
With the price of gas averaging around $1.00/ litre, it will cost about $700 CAD ($550 USD) to drive the motorhome to Ottawa.
We could have flown from Regina to Ottawa for $192 each...a total of $384.
But, for us it's not all about the destination. By taking the motorhome, we get a two week RV trip out of it, and we get to see some parts of Canada that we haven't seen before. Plus, our daughter and her family have a very small house, and they don't really have room for us. So we'll be staying in the motorhome on their property for most of our time in Ottawa.
And, if we would have taken the plane, we would have had to get from the park to either Regina or Saskatoon. And that would have cost $36 each by bus, and we still would have had to take a local bus to the airport.
So around $700 to drive versus around $460 to fly. Don't need to take overnight costs into consideration because we'll be finding great free camping spots to show you all along the way!
Only 12 days until we get on the road! Yee haw!
Woke up this morning to frost on the kayak!
Brrrr!

Midland weather radio...for the price, it's worth having one in the RV...
High of 28 in Ottawa today but that could be the last of the hot weather!
ReplyDeleteAnd of course you're talking 28C (82F)...just to clarify for our American readers.
DeleteThanks Kevin. I never have figured out Celsius.
DeleteThere is advantages to taking the rv as opposed to flying, thats why we enjoy our moving home so much.
ReplyDeleteYes there certainly are, like having your own bed, your own kitchen and food and you can travel as quickly or slowly as you would like and you get to see all the scenery along the way. Having said that we like to travel no matter what form of transportation we take. :-)
DeleteThat is always the dilemma when you are just wanting to get from A to B. In the US it is particularly bad because it is so cheap to fly across the country, lately we have just grabbed flights on Frontier or Southwest and left the motorhome in storage!
ReplyDeleteYep, it is hard sometimes not to take advantage of those super cheap flights. It also helps if you have friends or family at the other end that you can stay with otherwise hotels and meals can start to add up quickly along with a rental car if you are needing one.
DeleteWHAT...frost. Those 12 days can't come fast enough.
ReplyDeleteIt isn't about getting there fast for us either. We love seeing the sites along the way.
Nope they can't but then again we won't be heading south to warmer weather. We will be heading east so we will see more of this weather as we move along, however this weekend it suppose to be beautiful, with summer like temperatures. :-)
DeleteWhen we fly somewhere we always think about the scenery and the adventures that we are missing that would have been along the way but sometimes it just makes sense to fly.
we are sitting at 3800 feet and the temperature this morning was -3.6 celcius..everything was a tad frosty!
ReplyDeleteYikes, that is getting pretty frosty and you still have at least a month left to go before you can get to some slightly warmer weather. Hope it doesn't get too much colder there for you.
