So we drove for a half an hour to the town of Whitewood, Saskatchewan where we stopped and had breakfast and a hot drink and used the internet.
The town of Whitewood has a "flag garden" at it's western entrance...
Sherman looks like he won an award of some kind!
From there, it was more miles on the Trans Canada highway heading east. Not the most interesting. We stopped in the town of Moosomin (pop 2,480) and had a walk around but didn't find anything too interesting there. Didn't even take any photos. Then, it was back on the highway where we crossed the border into Manitoba.
Welcome to Manitoba!
A one hour time change for us as soon as we crossed the border. Still on central time, however Saskatchewan doesn't do daylight savings time, and Manitoba does. So we crossed at 11:40am, and all of a sudden it was 12:40pm.
Noticeable difference in Manitoba compared to Saskatchewan?
There are trees!
We stopped at the town of Alexander, Manitoba. Didn't go into the town itself, but they had a nice little baseball park where we pulled in for lunch. Would have made for a fine overnight spot, but we were heading a few miles north of Alexander to Rivers Provincial Park.
Sherman, parked for lunch near Alexander, Manitoba.
Finally on to a secondary road, but it wasn't in the best of shape.
Even the recent patch job was poorly done.
Arrived at Rivers Provincial Park.
The campground here is officially closed, however there is nothing stopping anybody from overnighting here at this time of year. There are no services of course, but the park itself is still open.
We're here because long time blog readers Lorne and Sue run the concession and mini golf here at the park. They are also RV'ers, with a big diesel pusher motorhome that they live in. And they invited us for a visit!
We said hellos, and then got Sherman parked up in a nearby site. We had some things to do though, so we agreed to meet for dinner at their place at 7:00pm.
Ruth made some bread, and then gave me a badly needed haircut. I felt like having a nap, so I snoozed while Ruth had some internet time. Only problem was...she hadn't set the clock on her computer for the hour time change and I napped until almost 7:00pm! I woke up and came in to her saying "you do realize that it's ten minutes to seven...?".
We were a few minutes late for dinner. Sue had made a delicious chicken fettuccine sauce and a salad, and we brought our own gluten free pasta. Had a nice meal, and then a campfire outside. Lots to talk about as we follow some of the same other bloggers and of course we're both interested in RV'ing and campgrounds.
Sherman, parked up at Rivers Provincial Park, Manitoba.
After three days of driving, we're due for a break. So today is a day off! There are a few short hiking trails here, so we'll do some relaxing and exploring, and spend some time with Lorne and Sue. They're having a little get together this evening with some local friends to celebrate the closing of the season for their first year running the concession and mini golf business, and we've been invited to join them, so we're looking forward to that. Maybe we'll even have a game of mini golf.
Yesterday's drive, 213 kms (132 miles).

Every day for the last two weeks, the RhinoFlex Sewer Hose as dropped in price. It's funny watching it. I wonder how cheap they'll let it go...
And in Canada, the Jackery external smart phone battery pack is on sale. Make sure it's the black one! For the price, you can't go wrong. We have one of these, and it's a great little unit...
Enjoy your day off! Sherman looks happy.
ReplyDeleteWe had a wonderful day off, nice and relaxing. :-)
DeleteLove the flags and I bet you are happy to see trees again! I love the plains, but love trees a bit more :) I think autumn is my favorite time of year to camp & travel. Love all the colors and lack of people! Enjoy your day off!
ReplyDeleteWe are very happy to see trees again, we were both commenting on that the other day. And yes, you can't beat autumn. The trees here are so pretty with the changing colour and the lack of people makes it so quiet.
DeleteMaybe the price of the RhinoFLEX keeps dropping because it is such a pain to store in the rear bumper! Now, I certainly did not relish paying over twice the price for the Valterra Dominator. But not having to deal with disassembling, storing, and reassembling stinky fittings every time? Priceless lol
ReplyDeleteWho knows why it is so cheap now but for some it is a great hose. Not everyone has a rear bumper that you can store the hose in, we don't. And we don't have to keep disassembling it either, so I guess you just buy want suits your needs the best.
DeleteYou are right, of course---RhinoFLEX is a great hose. It's just that the fittings don't fit lol. So it occurred to me this morning, why not just buy the kit for the hose only, and use the Valterra fittings? So I just ordered one for pickup at the local Walmart at the awesome Amazon price. Thanks guys!
DeleteGlad that we could help Dugg! :-)
DeleteYou need a day off when travelling , enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteWe just needed a day off, it has been a long time since we were able to basically just relax and not have to do anything that we didn't want to do. :-)
DeleteThe trees in Ottawa have just started turning, very few leaves have fallen - probably because the weather has been too warm!
ReplyDeleteSo they should be at their peak by the time we get there. :-)
DeleteWelcome to 'Friendly Manitoba'!
ReplyDeleteThank you Janis!
DeleteNot much fun when you lose an hour as you drive east. Much better heading west, where suddenly you've gained an hour! An hour to the good. Unless you're driving west into the setting sun (like we did on Tuesday - yeow!) We have never been to Manitoba.
ReplyDeleteWe don't really find the hour loss a big deal but it is if you forget about it and have made plans, we have done that before! ;-)
DeleteFor us it is the rising sun in the east that is a problem when we get up and start driving right away in order to warm things up inside of Sherman. Really noticed it this morning!
You need to make a visit to Manitoba then! There are many things to see here. We haven't been but Riding Mountain National Park is supposed to be beautiful. There are lots of lakes in the central to northern part of the province and also Lake Winnipeg just north of the city which is a huge lake with a number of parks on it.
Funny to read your description of Moosomin. That's where my relatives used to live; though I haven't been there in about 20 years...
ReplyDeleteMoosomin definitely didn't thrill us but some of the towns before it were more to our liking. The town probably hasn't changed too much in those 20 years or so. ;-)
