Never any problem getting on the internet, despite feeling like we're in the middle of nowhere up here. Always either a cell signal or an unsecured wifi signal coming from somewhere nearby.
Here's a few photos of northern Ontario scenery...
We went through another time zone yesterday. We're now back on Eastern Standard Time.
Stopped just west of Thunder Bay for lunch, and across the street was a Napa Auto Parts store. They didn't have a plug wire set for Sherman, but I bought a distributor cap and rotor. I guess Sherman will get his tune up in bits and pieces!
Then filled up with fuel again. Gas is fairly expensive up here in northern Ontario, but I managed to get it for $1.079 per litre (about $3.15 USD per gallon). Still, that's better than the $1.149 per litre price along highway 11 through Kapuskasing that we'll be on today.
A little bit of road construction east of Thunder Bay.
We stopped at Eagle Canyon Adventures just east of Thunder Bay. They have Canada's longest suspension bridge there, as well as Canada's longest zip line. 3 kms on a rough road to get there. Their website said it was $20 each to get in. We thought that was a little pricey, but then figured that maybe the zip line was included. Their website wasn't very clear on that. Anyhow, nope...they wanted $20 each to do the short hike and suspension bridge...and then a further $50 each for the zipline.
No thanks. I watched the young couple in front of us drop $140 just like that. Wow.
Then, they wouldn't even let us park overnight in their big lot. Whether we had paid, or not. No overnight parking.
Okay, whatever. Lots of other overnight spots available up here in the great white north. We carried on to the town of Nipigon (pop 1,700) where their claim to fame is that they have Canada's smallest Canadian Tire store.
Smallest Canadian Tire store in Canada (or the world, for that matter!)
We drove into a small industrial park and parked up beside a vacated building. Nobody around. Slept great. Didn't see a single person since we've been set up here! Nobody walking dogs, nothing.
Sherman, parked up for the night in Nipigon, Ont.

The Coleman Roadtrip Grill is on Deal of the Day today...never been this cheap!
You made good good time today, and enjoy some more of northern Ontario.
ReplyDeleteThe scenery was beautiful all the way along.
DeleteThat was a long driving day. When we were in Portugal a couple of years ago we met some Flemish people when when they heard we were from Canada told us of their Ontario adventure the summer before. They rented a car in Toronto and could not believe you could drive for days and days and not even get to another Province. They were amazed at how huge it was. But then again, Brussels is one of the tiniest countries and difficult to compare other things to.
ReplyDeleteFor most people that would be a short driving day but for us it was a longer one! ;-)
DeleteMost people in Europe have absolutely no idea how big Canada really is but once they get here they quickly find out.
Second time trying to comment.....Blogger is not happy.
ReplyDeleteGood news about the internet. Also wanted to say that prices here finally dropped to 1.11 per litre for gas.
We did hit a large area yesterday/this morning where there was no cell service but all in all it has been much better coverage than we thought it would be up here in the middle of no man's land.
DeleteHeard from a friend that just moved to B.C. that car insurance and license plates are twice as much as in Ont.!
ReplyDeleteWe have no idea what prices for insurance are like in BC but we know that in Saskatchewan we are paying way less than we did in Ontario!
DeleteBeautiful country pictures. I would not pay $70.00 per person to get the crap scared out if me either.
ReplyDeleteThanks Peter! We would pay $70 if we thought that it was worth it but we certainly didn't think this was worth that kind of money.
DeleteMisfiring under power, have you thought of the fuel filter?
ReplyDeleteYes, Kevin did think about the fuel filter but said if it was the fuel filter it would cause a problem when he gives it more gas quickly and Sherman isn't doing that so he said that Sherman is obviously getting enough gas. We think it is definitely the plug wires but because we don't have the proper plug kit we can't change all of the wires. He is running better but still not perfectly.
DeleteThis Ontario country side is beautiful. Love your pictures. We made it to Vermilion Bay and are parked in the same spot you parked with Sherman. Only thing is the parking lot was a bit tight to turn around in with the 40 ft rig plus Jeep behind. We hope to put 800 kms behind us tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteWill keep watching for you.
Yes, it is beautiful up here. When you turn off Hwy 17 and onto Hwy 11 going along the side of Lake Helen, I believe, keep your eyes open for bald eagles. We must have seen at least 10 of them all in less than 5kms.
DeleteI think we will still be ahead of you today so it will probably be tomorrow that our paths will cross. We'll keep our eyes open for you. :-)
You are in some beautiful country! Your header photo is stunning!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Lori! Today's header picture is another beauty. :-)
