Pinterest?

It's a lot of work to run a daily blog like we do. We still enjoy doing it so we'll keep at it for a while yet! But between writing the blog, answering comments, posting to facebook and answering emails related to the blog...it's quite time consuming. Then, there's a raft of other social media possibilities that are expected of you and so far we've tried to avoid them because they simply take up more time.

Can't bring ourselves to "tweet" on a regular basis, so other than an automated tweet once a day when we post the blog, we don't use twitter. Facebook has worked well for us though. We get a lot of readers through Facebook. But one that we've always wanted to try is Pinterest because we've read that other travel bloggers have had a lot of success with it.

Our daughter Lindsey uses Pinterest, so she spent some time with Ruth over the weekend showing her the basics. So we now have a Pinterest page, and hopefully we'll figure out how to use it properly!

Ruth has been using Pinterest to keep track of some of the sights we want to see in Romania. Do any of you guys use Pinterest?

Went for a nice walk around the village yesterday for the first time. Did 5.4 kms (3.3 miles) in 55 minutes. Not bad. Mostly through residential neighbourhoods. It's a nice place to live, but man property is expensive this close to Ottawa. Lindsey and Justin were lucky to get the deal they did.

Checking online, there are only two houses available in the village for under $300,000. The rest are mostly in the $400,000 range.

This place is attractive. We liked the entrance landscaping.

Look at this monstrosity being built! Looks too big, and too close to the road.

And, of course there is a selection of older homes in the central part of the village that were built around 1905. Most have been renovated more than once, but at least they have some character.

We're headed downtown to pick up a car rental this morning. Lindsey and Justin have been generous in trying to make sure that we always have one of their cars available to us, but we don't want to be a burden and I had come across a deal for $140 for a week, so we're going to take it.

Then, out for lunch with my mom, and then up to visit Ruth's dad for a couple more days.

The Keurig coffee maker is on sale, but only for Prime members...

And in Canada, a good deal on a 400 watt inverter...

    1. We don't want to get into too many of these social media groups but we definitely like facebook and I like Pinterest too now that I am starting to understand how it works. We can't be bothered with Twitter and I don't look at Google Plus although I know that Kevin posts the blog there.

  2. I use pinterest for exactly what Ruth does - so if you guys are posting there be sure to put country name/site in the title then link to your blog post. It can't hurt! I don't think it is as big as it once was though. I only go on there about 4 times a year

    1. I always put the location on there and also a link to the blog. I like using Pinterest when we are planning a trip. I look for Pins on the country we are visiting and then make a board to save them all in and then search out the sights on a map so that we can try to see as many of them as we can. There are some beautiful places and interesting things to do when you start looking at Pinterest. I have it set to show up in my emails so once a week it gives me new ideas. Our daughter uses it all the time to find recipes and all sort of other ideas.

  3. If you want a house in the greater Vancouver area, you need at least a million bucks. I find Pinterest very busy and confusing...

    1. We could never be able to live in Vancouver at those prices!

  4. You guys still impress me with your blogs even on a slow day. You always seem to make an interesting story out of a simple walk. I guess I am not in blogging mode because I look back at the pictures I have taken every day and realize there are not many to work with. I guess I will learn how to take meaningful pictures someday. I know its a lot of work but I for one really enjoy sharing your experiences every day. Keep up the good work.

    1. Sometimes it is difficult to write a daily blog especially when we are at the campground working because people don't want to see your daily happenings when it is usually the same thing over and over. We like to try to keep things interesting and geared to travel, either RVing or abroad because it is a travel blog after all. ;-)

Thanks you for enjoying it, it is because of you and our other readers that we keep it up. That, and the fact that it is a diary in a way for us.

  5. I enjoy your blog and it's nice that it pays off a little in dividends from your deal with Amazon. I always order through your link so that you will get some compensation for your time and effort. I love your style or writing and your photos are always amazing. Thanks for sharing your adventures and journey through life. I found your house post today interesting. I have always been of the less-is-more way of thinking & maybe it's because I was raised very frugally. Houses have cont'd to grow and grow (in size and cost), with everyone in the family needing their own room for sleeping, rooms for entertainment as well as their own bathrooms in many cases! I just have to shake my head because these people live to work to support this lifestyle. I don't get it. We bought a 1940's home. It's so nice to have a small, but functional space. A place for loved "things", rather than endless clutter & space taken up by materialism. We have learned that we can live on so much less than what society throws at us in expectations. I don't care what others "have" or how much their stuff costs. I think that's another reason I like your blog. You look for the economical and don't need to spend lots of money to be comfortable and have the things you need or want.

    1. Thanks Lori, both for taking the time to read our blog and for buying any of your items from our Amazon link! :-) It's is nice that the blog has brought us some little dividends that help us with our travels and Amazon is definitely one those.

We totally agree with you about the less is more and we love living life this way. We are also happy to see that both our son and daughter have taken up this attitude as well. It is amazing that there is so much to do without having to spend and arm and a leg to do it and we are always happy to pass along some of the hints that we use in order to achieve it.

  6. I do a blog when on the road only and it is a lot of work. Keep it up you are so much fun to follow. I have to admit that my preferred part is when you are travelling in Mexico. I am really looking forward to do it. The for sale sign is up and then we go....

    1. Thank you Daniel! Yes, it is hard work for sure but it doesn't always feel like work, we really do enjoy writing the blog. Sorry that we can write about Mexico this winter, we will miss it but we also know that there will still be fun and interesting times ahead.

Good luck with the sale of your house, and hope you make it to Mexico soon.

  8. I've tried to use Pinterest but haven't found anything useful. Actually, I find it a bit confusing. When it says save, I want to save it to my computer, not create another board. But then again, maybe I'm not using it correctly. As for big houses, I could live in a cardboard box!

    1. I found it a bit confusing to begin with but now that I have a better understanding of how it works, I find it very useful.

No, the pins don't save to your computer but to your page in Pinterest. The idea is to make up boards that are of interest to you and then you can look through the main page of pinterest or at boards that others had posted that you like and when you find a post/pin that you want to save you hit the save button and then save it to your page in the board that fits that subject. To give you an idea, I made a board on my private page for Romania and then when ever I see a pin or a blog post that I want to save that is about Romania I just save it to that board. Later I can go back to my Romania board and see all the pins I have saved and use those to help plan our route.
