It's going to be a long day and a half!

But we love this stuff. The next time you hear from us, we'll be in Zurich, Switzerland. How cool is that??

We fly Air Canada from Ottawa to Montreal at 3:20 this afternoon. Then, a short wait before our 6:00pm overnight Swiss Air flight from Montreal to Zurich, Switzerland. The flight time is 7h:20m, and there's a 5 hour time change so it will be 6:20am when we arrive in Zurich.

Then, our flight to Bucharest doesn't leave until noon. So we're going to take advantage of Zurich airport's close proximity to downtown and we're going to do the fairly expensive 15 minute train ride from the airport to downtown.

We'll try and update our facebook fans along the way, so if you want to follow a little closer you can check in at https://www.facebook.com/TravelwithKevinAndRuth/. It's a public page, so you don't have to be a member of facebook to see what we're up to over there.

Our flight map.
Ottawa to Montreal, Montreal to Zurich, and Zurich to Bucharest.

In Zurich, we'll wander around for a couple of hours and maybe have some breakfast. Eggs are around $8.00 USD ($10.50 CAD) a dozen in Zurich, so we know it's going to be pricey. But hey...you only live once, right?

Then tomorrow afternoon we have a Swiss Air flight from Zurich to Bucharest, Romania. We'll take the local bus from the airport to the downtown train station, and then walk to another local bus to get to our AirBnB host. Should be interesting in a big city that's new to us, but I think we've got it all figured out.

So, hopefully you'll enjoy checking in with us over the next six weeks as we tour Romania and Moldova! Thanks for following along!

  1. Have fun! Quite possibly too many airports for T.C. and I, but you dig this kind of stuff, and I'll sit right here watching.

    1. Surprisingly enough the flights have been going great. We were both actually surprised how fast the time seemed to fly by on the Montreal to Zurich flight.

    1. Yes, it is definitely a full couple of days but so far it is going well and I am sure by tonight we will both be pretty much done and with any luck we will sleep through the night.

    1. Thanks Randy! We managed to get a little shut eye on the plane but by the end of the day we will be exhausted so hopefully we will be able to sleep well tonight.

  6. Happy travels. Zurich is a pleasant city. You might be interested in checking out the Chagall windows at Fraumunster. https://www.thestar.com/life/travel/2011/01/10/in_zurich_visitors_peer_into_chagalls_heart.html
You guys are travel pros, but just a caution to be sure you have all your paperwork on you if you leave a transfer wing of the airport. My siblings and I were almost stuck in Iceland once, because we found our way out of an airport wing we weren't supposed to (we wanted to take pictures outside), and our parents were inside the airport with the paperwork.

    1. I am afraid that we missed them. :-( We did walk around that area but most things still hadn't really opened yet, we even stopped by one church and it wasn't opened until 10:00am and we had to leave by that time. We arrived in downtown Zurich around 7am or so and had to leave by about 9:45am to make sure we were back for our connecting flight.

We had all our paperwork with us so there was no worry about being stuck on the wrong side of security. We take it, you and your siblings made it back through and we'll bet that you never do that again. ;-)

  10. This might be too late but - The Zürich Hauptbahnhof station is huge and has lots of food places, usually the cheapest around. Exit one side and walk the Bahnhofstrasse to the lake where there are plenty of swans. You will pass Läderach on your left. My fav choc place for white choc with nuts. Exit near Platform 18 and walk towards Walhalla Hotel where right across from it the city tours start - if you wish to catch one. I hope you enjoy your stop in Zurich!

    1. We enjoyed our short time in Zurich and had already done the walk from the station up to the lake, very pretty indeed and lots of swans. :-)

We actually had some leftover snacks so we didn't buy breakfast after all and most of the shops still hadn't opened yet so no chocolate either. They did give us some chocolate on our flight just before we landed and it was delicious. I hope they do that again on our next flight. :-)
