Christmas Day was really fun. We enjoyed watching our grandchildren open their gifts. At the ages of 3 and 5, they are right into Santa Claus and all the Christmas excitement.
We woke up here at Ruth's father's place and sure enough, Santa had arrived at some point overnight...
Apparently everybody was very good this year, and Santa knew it!
Cameron (5) and Sadie (3) had a big box of stuff from their other grandparents who live in Nova Scotia.
Our daughter Lindsey, son in law Justin, and grandkids Cameron and Sadie.
Our son Alex.
Great Grandpa Tony, and Sadie.
Christmas dinner.
Only one problem.
As is typical here in Ottawa during the winter, we were about to get hit with a winter ice storm. Freezing rain, and sleet, and all kinds of nasty stuff.
But, we headed off anyhow, because...well...we're used to that stuff up here in the great white north.
And, we made it with no problems and enjoyed dinner with my side of the family. Unfortunately, both Ruth and I forgot our cameras! So, no photos of that, or the mess left from the ice storm.
But, it did mess up our plans a little bit. Ruth and I were bringing the grandkids to spend a couple of days with us, but driving was quite bad and we never made it back to Ruth's dad's place, preferring instead to spend the night at Lindsey and Justin's. Wasn't too bad on the highway, but when we turned onto their street it was a skating rink! Just glare ice...had to be really careful.
But it warmed up above freezing overnight, and by morning the roads were totally clear.
So we drove up to Ruth's father's place and now it's just us and the grandkids for a couple of days.
So...not the best weather, but it's the weather we're not surprised to be getting. When we arrived we had ice cold, and now we've had snowstorms and ice storms. Yuck. It totally reminds us why we're not here in the winter.
Been enjoying our time with the kids, but we're thinking a wintertime visit to Canada won't happen again for a while!

Love the party hats. Strangely, we got not one bit of ice here, yet only as close as Georgetown, it was treacherous. We didn't need to go anywhere either way.
ReplyDeleteGotta love Christmas crackers with the paper hats, jokes and little useless toys! ;-)
DeleteLucky you, not to have gotten that wonderful ice storm. We certainly could have done without that, really made a mess for many people driving that day. Thankfully we got where we were going both coming and going.
Looks like a very blessed Christmas day.
ReplyDeleteThe dang weather can make a mess of our plans.
We had a wonderful Christmas day with the family, especially the grandkids but I think it will be quite a while before we come back to Canada at this time of year.
DeleteGood grief, winter is just wrong!!! And yet, here we are in snowy Langley, BC. Not next year! We'll be looking for sunshine and warm weather.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas and a happy new year to you and yours!
Totally agree with you Peter, winter in the snow and cold is not for us anymore!
DeleteHope you both had a wonderful Christmas as well.
Lovely time with family and especially the grands!
ReplyDeleteIt was a fantastic time! Totally loved spending time with them.
DeleteI am sure you both had a good time with your family over Christmas as well.
Glad you enjoyed your time with the family, but enough of that weather, and like you we have a choice where we winter.
ReplyDeleteNoe soon travel safe to warmer places.
Absolutely agree with you on the weather, we certainly have had enough of it but we also didn't come here at this time of the year for the weather! Being with our families, especially the grandchildren though, have more than made up for that. :-)
DeleteNice to spend time with family (before warm Spain!).
ReplyDeleteYes, it has been nice to spend Christmas with the family. Not much longer before we get to enjoy some warmer weather! :-)
DeleteLove the opening picture! Would rather be spending time in Mexico then our crazy cold winters as well. I guess next year you both will have a totally different Christmas someplace warmer. Enjoy your family time!
ReplyDeleteWe have loved every one of our Christmases in Mexico. They have given us some great memories and each one has been unique. Not sure where we will be next year for Christmas, it is possible that it may be in the USA! Guaranteed, it will be warmer than the one this year. :-)
DeleteLooks like wonderful family time and what better time than Christmas. I know they all must be sad that you won't be there next time. Glad everyone has been able to handle the snow and ice. Guess you are pros by now.
ReplyDeleteWe did all have a wonderful Christmas together with just about all our family members. I guess next time they want together for Christmas they will have to come and join us somewhere in much warmer weather.
DeleteYep, winter driving in Canada is just a way of life for some of us Canadians, plus we had a little warm up to the driving when we were over in Romania and Moldova.
I feel your pain, winter is no fun. Right now sitting in Sioux Falls, SD with 25*F temps and 30 mph wind. Had to fly up to renew our drivers licenses. Can't wait to get back to the land of flip flops and shorts. ;c)
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a great Christmas with all of your family, grandkids make it extra special!
Yep, winter is no fun unless you are the type that loves outdoor winter activities. Hopefully you are back in a nice warm climate by now. We leave tomorrow for Barcelona so it won't be long and we can ditch these winter coats. :-)
DeleteHope you had a wonderful Christmas as well and wishing you both a Happy New Year with many adventures ahead.
