Beautiful walk on the coast, and a new battery!

Woke up to a beautiful blue sky sunny day here on the Costa del Sol in southern Spain.

Our battery was scheduled to show up between 11 and 12, so we knew we had to be back for that. But then we received a phone call from them asking if it was okay of they didn't show up until around 4:00pm. Sure, that was actually better so we didn't have to hang around.

Still a little cool overnight, but as soon as things warmed up a bit, Ruth and I took off for a walk. We headed across the highway to the shoreline only about 15 minutes away.

We knew we had been getting closer to Gibraltar, but it was still a bit of a surprise to see "the rock" off in the distance. I think we're only about 50 kms (30 miles) away now. We could also see Morocco off in the distance!

The Rock of Gibraltar.

Rocky beach.

We started off along the beach but we soon came to a nice walking pathway that fronted some of the resort style hotels. Most of them looked pretty empty as this is slow season for them.

Beautiful gardens.

Scenery along the way.

Coastline.

Nice spot to relax for a couple of hours!

More coastline.

Staring out to sea.

We walked part of the way back along the main road. Lots of development in this area, even on the opposite side of the highway.

Nothing in Spanish.

Back at the campground, we relaxed for the rest of the afternoon. The battery guy called again, saying it would be 4:30pm. Okay.

He finally showed up at 4:45pm. Not bad, and at least there was good communication.

They brought us a group 31 series AGM deep cycle battery. It cost €222 ($321 CAD, $240 USD). I had thought that was pretty pricey, but these batteries are quite expensive even in North America so I think we did okay. They even had a wireless credit card machine with them so that I could pay by Visa. High tech stuff!

Already had the seat removed, and Steve helped me put the new battery in. It arrived fully charged at 12.8 volts, and I'm confident that this will make our dry camping experiences much better over the next six weeks.

In the evening, we played cards with Glen and Steve. A few rounds of Euchre, and then a great game of Bugger Your Neighbour (also known as "Oh Hell"). Too funny.

Today, Glen and Steve are going to meet up with friends at the Gibraltar border, and Ruth and I are heading inland to the village of Casares, only about 25 kms away. Supposed to be lots of hiking up there and the weather is perfect. We'll meet up with Glen and Steve again at the Gibraltar border on Monday or Tuesday.

  1. Good call on the battery. Even if it costs you the extra $$$. Does Amazon deliver in Spain?

    1. We do too but not so much when they are so touristy and busy. That particular area wasn't too bad and quite pretty for sure.
