Bicycle ride to Sanlucar

When Louis's owners were getting him ready for us, they asked if we wanted the bicycles. They explained that they're old, and not in the best of shape...but we figured we might use them so we said yes. Well yesterday, we used them for the first time. The campground we're staying at is located right on a cycling path that runs between the towns of Rota and Sanlucar.

We're only about 7 kms from Sanlucar, so we took the bikes off the rack and got them ready.

They needed air in all four tires...and there was a bolt missing from the fender on the ladies bike. But I scrounged through the tool box and found a fix. The little hand pump worked fine for filling up the tires.

And off we went...

Ruth found the lady's bike not too bad, but I learned really quickly that the men's bike was not very comfortable for me. It was too small, and after a couple of miles my butt was already sore!

However, they got us into town, and faster than walking. We parked the on the outskirts, locked them up and walked into town along the promenade.

It was a grey day, and it even spit with rain a couple of times.

Sanlucar is located at the mouth of the Guadalquivir River. Perhaps you remember the Chris de Burgh song "Spanish Train"...There's a Spanish Train that runs between Guadalquivir and old Seville...

The Guadalquivir River is the shipping access point from Seville to the Atlantic Ocean.

There are several sherry bodegas located in Sanlucar. We stopped in at one of them but it was closed for tours. Although, the girl in the shop gave us a free taste of their unique manzanilla sherry...a type of very pale dry wine. Different. It has a definite sherry flavor, but it's very weak.

Built between 1468 and 1492. We passed on the €7 entrance fee.

We walked by the spot where most of the RVs were congregated. Apparently there used to be an aire in Sanlucar but it's been closed down. We're learned that RV'ers tend to park where there are other RV'ers, so we don't know if this is a special place just for RV's or if they're all parked together because one parked there and others followed.

We had enough and walked back to the bikes. Sure enough, they were still there, but I expect they would have still been there even if we hadn't locked them! We had a headwind to ride back in, but it was easier than we thought it was going to be.

Ruth made a delicious chicken stir fry for dinner. A couple of games of yahtzee and then we finished watching a movie...Arrival. Not bad, but we didn't like the ending.

    1. It wasn't a bad day but it would have been even better if the sky had been blue and less windy but still a good day out.

  2. I knew that was the bullring having seen the one in Tijuana! Do they still have bull fights?

    1. Yes, they still have bull fights but not at this time of the year. Usually the bull fighting season is March/April to September/October in most Spanish cities.

    1. Yes, most of the old buildings are kept up quite well and then reinvented for some other use. Lots of history here for sure.
