Back to the mountains

We headed inland yesterday towards the Sierra Nevada National Park here in Spain. Lots of beautiful views, and again, a sunny clear blue sky.

And along this drive, we didn't see a single motorhome until we arrived at our destination and even then, it was only one other rig.

Most of the roads were fairly narrow, and with lots of curves. But the road surface was in excellent condition.

We were only about 5 kms (3 miles) on the main highway towards Granada.

But then we got onto a secondary road heading east.
There's the main highway above us!

Stopped to admire the views a few times.

Snow in the mountains. No, we're not headed that high!

Stopped for another view.

Look waaaay down...

The town of Torvizcon.

Stopped for lunch near Torvizcon.

We think these are almond trees blossoming.

More curves.

Just us.

Yep. Another view stop.

And yep, more curves.

Scenery along the way.

The road we came up on.

And yet another viewpoint.

I had read of a municipal swimming pool up here that is closed at this time of year. It has a nice level parking lot with beautiful views. Given that we didn't see any other motorhomes on our drive up we expected to be alone.

But when we arrived, there was one other rig here, a motorhome with Germany plates. Lots of room though, so we were able to park far enough away from them.

Louis, parked for the night at GPS 36.977415, -3.14069

Yesterday's drive, 77 kms (48 miles).

Had a great sleep. Quiet and peaceful as can be. This is another spot that we could easily stay another night, but we'd rather do less driving per day over the next four days, so we're going to carry on to another location.

  1. I wonder if olive oil, almonds and citrus fruit are cheaper in Spain!

    1. We haven't checked almonds, but olive oil and oranges are definitely cheaper.

  2. What a lovely spot! I too would be tempted to stay another day just to drink in the tranquility and views.

    1. I wish we had the time to stay longer, it was so beautiful there but we had more fantastic views on our drive yesterday as well. :-)

  3. Wouldn't it be interesting to visit an olive oil making factory? I love to see how they process stuff...visited several in my travels and the best part is the sampling. I also love, love, love road trips...stop here and there or hike. I really enjoyed this tour of the drive and country side.

    1. We passed an olive factory one day and we are kicking ourselves for not going and having a tour. It would have been fascinating, maybe the next time!

Yep, that is the way we love to travel. Do short distances and have the time to stop along the way and just drink in all the beauty. :-)

    1. Thanks Connie and Barry! There are so many gorgeous views here in the mountains. We loved this drive and the one we did yesterday was just as good. We are going to miss this RVing in Spain. Makes us want to go out and buy an RV here in Europe and just store it for when we have to go back home. There is just way too much to see and not enough time. Isn't that always the way?!
