Our two month motorhome adventure in Spain is almost over!

Another mountain drive yesterday as we made our way slowly through the villages on the southern border of Sierra Nevada National Park in Southern Spain.

We only did 64 kms (40 miles) from Mecina Bombaron to Canjayar, but it took us almost two hours! The roads are narrow and curvy, although with a nicely paved surface.

Temperature about 17C (63F), but a bit more hazy than it had been.

Before we left, we went for a short hike...

Only about 4 kms, just enough to get some exercise.

One of the mountain villages.

Ruth, admiring the view.

We hit the road about 11:00am...

A little narrow, but in great condition!

Near the village of Valor.

The village has it's own outdoor gym!

Good thing there was nothing coming the other way.
Yes, this is a two way street.

Parked for a short break.

Terraced agriculture is popular in this area.

We arrived in Canjáyar (pop 1,500) about 1:00pm and had some lunch. Canjáyar is another one of many Spanish towns that have installed their own free aire for the use of motorhomes. Not the most scenic because it's located at the municipal public works building, but it's a free safe place to overnight, with a dump station that we'll need to use this morning.

After lunch, we wet off to explore the town.

Canjáyar is known for it's little church on top of the hill.

There was a welcome board that told us about a tourist path through town. You just follow the markers laid out into the paths and roadways.

Just follow the arrows.

Scenery along the way.

A little chapel dating back to 1890.

It was locked, but I stuck my camera lens through the opening.

There's another motorhome coming into town.

Ruth, admiring the view.

Taking a break.

Not everything is old in Spain. This is a relatively new "suburb".

We made our way up to the church on top of the hill.

A pretty dove.

The little church. Surprisingly, not that old. Built in 1880.

View of the town of Canjáyar.

On the way back, Ruth found the local laundry facilities!
They don't appear to be used anymore.

Yesterday's drive, 64 kms (40 miles).

Nice little town, but no need to hang around any longer than one night. So we're on the move again this morning. Only 270 kms to go until we're back in Torrevieja on Monday to deliver Louis back to his owners. So we'll try and break that up into 90 kms each of the next three days.

Our two month motorhome adventure in Spain is almost over!

    1. Pretty little town for sure. I bet the laundry area was a great gathering spot for all the women in town, in the day. A place to catch up on all the news and gossip.

Yes, hard to believe the time has flown by so quickly but we sure did a lot in that time!

  2. Oh my gosh, that road would have made me so nervous knowing someone could come flying around the corner.
Cities in the USA should take note of a welcome board. That is a super idea. The town looks so peaceful.
Hard to believe your two-month visit is at an end. Thanks for taking us along. It has been great.

    1. We never found anyone flying around the corners, vehicles are probably just as careful going around a corner as we were.

We have found so many of these small out of the way towns go out of their way to make people come and enjoy their town. Many have wonderful walkways leading to nice little picnic areas and viewpoints as well as having marked walking tours through town. We love it!

Yes, the two months is up already but we still have lots of adventures ahead before heading back to Canada.

  3. The laundry facility remainds me of the one in San Miguell, it is still in use. Another lovely town... You have had a wonderful couple of months in Spain and Portugal, thanks for letting us come along.

    1. Yes, it does but I think the one is San Miguel is prettier. This one would have made it easier for the women to talk to each other while doing the laundry though because you are closer and not as spread out as the one in San Miguel.

We have had a great time in Spain and Portugal, we can't wait to do it again some day. :-)

  4. Beautiful towns and scenery! I know those narrow roads from when I was in Europe many years ago! Enjoy your adventure back to Louis's home! Cannot wait for the next adventure!

    1. Yes, the towns and scenery are beautiful and definitely lots of narrow roads. We sure have to be careful when we are driving in some of the towns and cities that we don't go off the main road or we could get into trouble on some of the real narrow ones.

Our new adventure isn't very far off now! :-)

  5. Cute tiny little churches and can you imagine doing your laundry on stones? I wonder when they quit using it.

    1. I have done my laundry on stones before and so do many others, especially in Mexico. I don't know when this one would have stopped being used but I am sure there are still some that get used somewhere!

  6. So much to see and comment on as you drove the curvy roads thru the mountains. Nice country villages/towns. It seemed like a relaxing two month trip - sightseeing, hiking, stopping, exploring, enjoying - fantastic job showing us around! Thank you so much!!!! B&C

    1. There sure is! The scenery was amazing. It was a fairly relaxing trip, we sure didn't get very far when you consider the size of the country and the actually area that we traveled in. Looks like we are going to have to come back and visit here again. :-)

  8. I am impressed at how clean and tidy all the towns and villages are. I also expected to see more urban sprawl, but the cities and towns seem to be compacted into their little area with lots of scenic land all around to enjoy. It's been fun going along on this adventure with you.

    1. Most of the towns are quite clean and tidy but you really have to watch where you put your feet, there is way too much dog poop that isn't picked up. :-(

Out in the country, you are right there isn't much sprawl. The cities definitely spread out more but still nothing like back at home.

  9. I'll bet those laundry sinks still get used once a week :). They had the same type of laundry sinks in the the campgrounds all through Morocco. Used them a few times :). Lyd.

    1. It didn't look like it! There were no taps unless they get the water into the sinks some other way, also most of the sinks were filled with mud and dirt. We see them used in Mexico a lot and even in Portugal.

    1. Yep, the time flew by way too fast! We're never bored so not sure how boredom feels. ;-)

Now, we are looking forward to our trip to Italy.
