Introducing...Chester!

A bit late getting started this morning! We wanted to come up to Ruth's dad's place fairly early for Easter Monday, so today's blog post had to wait until we got up here.

Our daughter Lindsey and son in law Justin had a spa gift card from his work that they wanted to use up, so they took advantage of the fact that Grandma and Grandpa are now here visiting. And that was fine with us, so we spent the day looking after Cameron (6) and Sadie (3 1/2), Boy, they sure are growing!

The Easter bunny had arrived at some point overnight, and brought some gifts...

Cameron and his new scooter.

Sadie and her new bike.

And this is Chester!

Lindsey and family adopted a 10 week old Rottweiller a few months ago. He's now 5 months and 70 lbs! Lindsey says he's been two months in a row gaining 20 lbs per month. He's a big friendly guy. And slobbery. Big jowels! Ha!

Chester.

Once again, we have no ambition to have a dog of our own right now, but it's fun to enjoy other people's dogs. And so now we have a granddog!

We took Cameron and Sadie over to the park at his school which is right across the road. We got there, and I saw this...

Huh?

So we found out later from Lindsey that the school board put this sign up because "the ground is hard and it needs to be tilled, because the children will hurt their little bums if they hit the ground going down the slide".

Yikes. The monkeys have taken over the zoo.

"Grandpa, grandpa...take a picture of me!"
Sadie is such a character. Too funny.

On to other stuff.

I was researching getting a Canadian SIM card for our time here. I can't justify the ridiculous prices. I think the cheapest plan with 1 GB of data and a few minutes of calling is somewhere around $40 a month. No thanks... don't need it that badly. I might go with another pay as you go card from Sasktel when we get to Saskatchewan, but I'll wait until July to get one, if I do.

I've been reading that we can now use a SIM card from Mexico and pay for their International plan and it works out to be cheaper than having a Canadian one. I know that's the case with Romania as well provided you have someone back there who can top it up for you when you need it!

Well, they do say that Canadian cell plans are the most expensive in the world. The research I've done pretty much proves it.

Anybody thinking about adding solar panels to their RV? If so, now is the time... these panels are a fantastic deal, and they're on sale today only. Never been this cheap...

And in Canada...

  2. Welcome back to Canada! Now it is on to more new adventures. Hope you are getting better weather there than we are in Alberta. I love your comment about the monkeys taking over the zoo. That is a real sore point with me also. lol Hope to see you soon.

    1. Thanks Lorne. So far the weather seems better than what Alberta had. It has been overcast here and a bit chilly along with some rain but no snow, at least not yet!

  3. First of all, Welcome back. Sorry it's a bit cool, but you'll manage.
Ever since we've come back from Austria, I have a "pay as you go" plan from 7-eleven. Who, you say? I know, makes no sense I realise. But I had a "pay as you go" plan in Vienna, and it worked like a charm. Here I probably put on about thirty five bucks a year for all the "calling" I do. Which basically means, I don't call anyone. So I'll be darned if I'll pay for a "plan", at some crazy monthly amount. Texting is cheap etc. Check it out. It's an idea, it might work for you.
Their plan is called, "speak out".

    1. Oh, but of course, you have to already have the phone, which of course you do. Just slap in the sim card.

    2. Thanks for that suggestion Bob. Kevin checked it out and has already ordered a SIM card from them.

    1. They sure are and it has only been just over 3 months since we last saw them! Chester is huge, he is already bigger than Sadie but what a gentle giant he is.

    1. It is a nice welcome back. It is so good to see the grandchildren again and the rest of the family of course. ;-) Yesterday was the first cool/cold day and it was mostly because of the wind. Hopefully the chilly weather won't last too long.

  6. Great picture of the 5 of you! Granddog. Love it! Chester is a mighty big fella. Our bunny never brought scooters and bikes just eggs, and carrots and candy.

    1. Thanks Sherry! Chester is definitely a mighty big fella and he is only 5 months old, he is going to be huge when he has finished growing. He is really good with the kids and very quiet. Hard to believe he is only a puppy still.

They might have got a scooter and a bike but the Easter Bunny is also smart and got them secondhand! ;-)

  7. Chester looks like a sweetheart of a dog...and Sadie mabe needs a few more inches of growth to master that bike. Kelly

    1. Yes, Chester is a sweetheart. For a puppy he is very quiet, we haven't even heard him bark yet and he doesn't even jump on people. The kids love him and he loves them.

The bike is a bit big but with training wheels on it, she can ride it and she loves it!

  8. Brrr....you look cold in the picture on top of the blog. And I though US data plans were expensive. Canadian ones are crazy expensive. Chester is adorable :-)

    1. It was a little chilly out but it wasn't freezing. Today is much nicer. :-)

Yep, Canadian cellular phones are insane for both phoning and data, either with our without a plan.

Chester, is such a good puppy and so good with the kids and other dogs, it's hard to believe that he is only 5 months old!

    1. They were items that they needed anyway and the Easter bunny likes to get secondhand items rather than new. They also get very little in the way of chocolate. :-)
