The water is rising

The water level of the lake here at the park is dependent on the runoff from the snow melt in the Rocky Mountains west of Calgary. They had a fair bit of snow this past winter, and we are now getting the benefit of that. The last two years our water level has been low, but this year is going to be different!

We have a marina area that hasn't been usable since our first year here in 2014, so it will be nice to see it full again.

The water level is already higher than it was all last summer, and it's supposed to come up another two and a half feet between now and July 1st. It's rising about 2 inches per day.

But because many of the docks haven't been usable, the weeds and grass in between them hasn't been looked after. It's technically the dock owners responsibility (the spaces are leased), but this year we are cleaning them up in preparation for the season. At least they get to start off looking good!

Photo taken yesterday.
I am cutting and trimming all the grass and weeds in between the docks. It's a big job!

And, we put together our new boat launch dock that arrives last week. Our workcamper Barry helped me out with it...

Barry helping put the boat dock together.

Ready to go in the water. We'll do that today!

Ruth's peonies are in full bloom, but they sure don't last very long!

Beautiful sunset last night!

Busy day and lots to do... have a great Friday everyone!

Good quality binoculars... cheapest they've ever been....

  1. It's great that you are getting a full lake this year. I'm sure your visitors will enjoy that. Everything is looking so nice! I have peonies all around my house and you are right, they don't last long. A week (& some rain) & they are done. Very pretty while they do last, though. Enjoy your weekend :)

    1. We are so happy that the water level is going to be good this year. The park sure deserves it after the last two years.

The peonies are really not done yet but yes, they got pretty sad looking because of the rain we got the other day. It seems to happen every year, just as they are starting to look at their best a storm comes through and drags them all over. :-(

    1. It sure looks like it is going to be. Now we just need some summertime weather to go with it. We had been doing really well with the weather until the last week or so. We did need some rain but we have had enough, now it would be nice to see the sun again.

Yes Canada, and especially the prairies get some great sunsets.

  5. At least you aren't going to experience flooding with your water rising. We are still having issues.

    1. I wouldn't say that yet! A lot of that will depend on how much actual water is coming down our way. They have in the past had flooding here but not to the extent that you had in Kelowna this spring.

  6. Can't wait to check out the new boat dock with that inflatable boat I got with your recommendation! And good work with that Duolingo, both of you :)

    1. I hope that means that you are going to be headed way sometime over the season! :-) If so we are looking forward to seeing you. Do you have any idea around when you might be here?

Thanks Doug, we are really trying hard to keep up with the Duolingo, it is hard sometimes because we never seem to have very much time to just sit back and relax before it is bedtime.

  7. Send water here quick. Our reservoir is almost dry, down to 2.3 meters. We need rain bad. The park looks really good.

    1. We needed the rain too but now we have had enough. Sure wish we could send some your way. Your rainy season should start soon shouldn't it?

We have had a ton on compliments this year on how well the park is looking! We are working hard at it and so is our summer helper, Kevin. We are happy to have him back at the park this season helping us out.

  8. Record snow pack in the Sierras, too, and our local rivers are raging! Reservoirs and lakes are full. Thank goodness ... it's been too dry too long! Dunno about you guys, but it's a-fixin' to start sizzling in the West!

    1. It is nice to see that the mountains had a good snow pack this year. I bet your area must look great with all the waterfalls at a good capacity as well as all the lakes, rivers and streams.
