Fortunately, the park is pretty quiet during the week, so we were able to take an hour and a half and go in to town.
Along the way, Doug spotted an owl that was sitting watching the world go by, and so we backed up to get a few photos of it. Maybe this is the young one that disappeared on us a couple of months ago...?
We went to the cafe and had lunch. Ruth and I each had soup and salad, and Doug had soup and sandwich. The soup was so good we all went back for seconds!
Doug and Ruth in the House of Heart Cafe in Cabri.
In the evening, I had to run into Cabri again for the park, and I tossed my camera in the car just in case. Never know what photo opportunity might come your way!
We don't often see deer around the park, although they are definitely around. This was right at dusk, and when I got to the top of the hill there were three of them on the road. They took off pretty quick when they saw me, but I managed to get one decent shot...
Deer in a field of wheat.
It was dusk and the light was getting low.
Further on, there were two more deer near the road. This time, it was two big males! I've never seen them with antlers quite this large!
The light was really quite low, and I took about 10 pictures but these were the only two that turned out. Even then, they're not as crisp as they should be, but still not bad!
Our friend Doug pulled out this morning, and so Ruth and I are on our own here for the rest of the season. Our workcampers are gone, our summer employee Kevin is done for the year, and we're not expecting any more visitors.
The countdown is on... only 40 days to go!

Love the photos. Another job well done for the season. It's kind of sad I didn't do anything significant the whole summer. I pretty much stayed in due to the heat. I should have packed up my camping gear and gone into the woods to tent camp or taken a road trip but I didn't. Me thinks I'm slowing down.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rita!
DeleteThe season isn't quite over yet and we still have a few more things that we want to get accomplished before we are finished for the year. However we are happy to see what has been completed this year. It is always nice to look around at the improvements that we have managed to get done throughout the season.
There is still time to get out there and do it Rita, especially in Arizona. The fall is probably a better time temperature wise anyway.
You would think the antlers would make the head top heavy!
ReplyDeleteI like soup - even in the summer!
Yep, we have said that ourselves when we see a deer with a big rack.
DeleteWe like soup anytime of the year as well.
SCORE on the photos - love them all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteTakes Connie and Barry! I know for sure that Barry would have loved the deer photos. :-)
DeleteYour wildlife photos are gorgeous! I love the way the one deer antlers kind of blend in with the foliage seedpods behind him. And the owl...I will believe in my heart that was your owelet from earlier in the season. <3 Lovely!
ReplyDeleteThank you Emily! I hadn't really noticed how the antlers blended in with the background until you mentioned it, and they sure do. :-)
DeleteEven if it isn't "our" young owl, Kevin said that he did see a young one in the park a few weeks back so we are very confident that our little one did survive it's ordeal this spring. And some more good news, remember our little one that got electrocuted last year on the transformer pole, well next week they are coming in to put in a ground mounted transformer station and then will remove the older one and cut the pole down to 6ft or so, so then we won't have to worry about anymore falling to the same fate. :-)
I'm enjoying reading your blog, Kevin and Ruth. I hope our paths cross someday.

Thank you Jeannie! Have you started out on your long winter's trip yet? I hope they will too. :-)
DeleteNice that Doug took you out to lunch and you got to enjoy some wildlife. Not long now and you be back on the road somewhere again.
ReplyDeleteIt was very nice of Doug to that and we really enjoyed the meal.
DeleteIt will still be a while before we actually hit the road with Sherman but it won't be long before we are reunited with him. :-)
Thanks again for the great stay. You are wonderful hosts!
ReplyDeleteYou are more than welcome Doug. We enjoyed your company.
DeleteHave fun watching the total solar eclipse on Monday. Hope the weather cooperates for the big show.
You remind me of US - even though you are enjoying where you are, you are still always planning the next trip !
ReplyDeleteLol... yep, ALWAYS...
DeleteStill reading you lovely blog. 16° Celsius here in Ireland. August is one of our summer months and September can often be better.xx
ReplyDeleteMy sister is in Dublin right now!
DeleteYou have some great photos. If you like, send me a few of the deer and I will see if I can get Colin to brighten them for you.
ReplyDeleteThank you Contessa. I will try to do that today, although we don't like adjusting our photos much as it often takes away from the natural look of them.
