Activity at the park, and a special birthday!

Do you remember last year when one of our young great horned owls was electrocuted? You can read about it here. At the time, we had contacted the power company to see if they could put some kind of shield on the wiring to prevent it from happening again. They said that they would put it on their "to do" list, but I guess it wasn't a priority and it never got done.

But I kept on asking, and when one of their reps was out here on another matter two months ago, I brought it up with them again.

This time we got some action, and they went over and above what we expected!

A couple of weeks ago they came and marked where the underground cables were located. And then yesterday just after 9:00am some trucks arrived. And some men. And some bigger trucks, and some more men!

They installed a new base mounted transformer. Cleaned everything up when they were done, and cut the pole down to just above the meter boxes. Very impressed!

Even more impressive was their work. These guys went right to it, and only took one short break despite the 35C (95F) temperature. I can't believe that they had it all done from start to finish in under four hours. Wow!

So now that's done, and it didn't cost the park a dime. Thanks Sask Power!

Did I mention it was 35C (95F)? Baking hot. And not a breath of wind in the air.

Baking hot, and no wind at all.

On to other news... four years ago today our precious granddaughter was born. She's such a sweetheart, even if we do say so ourselves. Sad that we can't be there with her today, but our daughter Lindsey forwarded some recent pics...

The cake Lindsey made for her.

Sadie said she didn't want any of the girly cakes!

Happy Birthday Sadie... see you four weeks from today!

    1. Sask did a super job! Now we don't have to worry about the owls or any other feathered friend having to electrocute themselves again.

Thanks Connie and Barry! Yes, she sure is growing up fast. She starts kindergarten next week!

  2. Happy birthday Sadie. My oldest sister is named Sadie and she was named after my paternal Aunt Sadie. I love, love the photo of Sadie on the fence...so adorable.

    1. I love that photo too! The name Sadie seems to fit her to a "T". And yes, she is adorable and we can't wait to give her a huge hug in less than a month's time. :-)

  4. Wow, they did a good job, I bet those old transformers are slowly being taken out wherever people complain, not the safest. What a great birthday cake - Happy Birthday to Sadie!

    1. They did do a great job, and yes I bet they have more problems with these poles than they do with the ground standing transformers.

Lindsey did a wonderful job on the cake!

  5. I know where I was 4 years ago today as I had an appointment in the building opposite the Hospital where Sadie was born so was able to see her shortly after birth!

    1. You are right, Sadie is precious and I think she knows it! ;-)

We are glad that we got another job ticked off of our list of things to get done here at the park, even if we ourselves didn't actually do the work.

  7. I have a friend that works for Saskpower....they are very professional...no slouches! I suspect they no longer wanted the liability associated with the pole mounted transformer....you know those nasty PCB's that are killing people everywhere. The last thing they would want is for it start leaking in a campground!

    1. You are right Mark, very professional and very hard workers. You could tell they had done this before and each person knew exactly what they had to do and they got it done quickly. We are very happy with the result and I am sure all our feathered friends are too! ;-)

    1. We wanted to make sure the owls and other birds would be safe. It was so sad when that one young owl died and we really didn't want to see it happen again, plus it just looks better this way.

Ever since she was a baby, I thought she looked like a doll. She is such a gorgeous little thing and we are so happy and lucky that we got to be her grandparents! :-)

  9. WOW..that is quite a job they did, and the price tag is excellent.
Sadie is such a doll. I love her cake. She takes after our girls. They didn't like girly stuff either.

    1. Yep, it was quite the job indeed but they made it look pretty simple.

She is definitely a cutie! She didn't want a girly cake but she loves wearing dresses.
