Also, we will be coming back through this area next May on our way up to Canada's northern Territories and Alaska, and we have offered to spend some time with the new manager(s) to get them off on the right foot. Whether or not the park board takes us up on that offer will depend somewhat on who gets hired for the job.
This is not a "work camping" job. This is a full time salaried position for five months. May 1st through the end of September. And full time it is. If you are the type of person who watches the clock, don't bother applying because there is no clock to watch.
You are essentially in charge of your own time. So if you're the type who needs someone telling them what to do next, you're probably not well suited to this type of job.
How many hours a week do you have to work? We don't know because we've never kept track of our hours. As many hours as it takes to get the job done. In the quiet period (May, June, and September) you can pretty much pick and choose what jobs you want to do and how many hours you choose to do them. However, there is always something that needs to be done.
Cabri Regional Park.
In the busy period, which typically lasts the six or seven week period from when the kids get out of school at the end of June until mid August, you will be busy. We had the office open from 8am to 9pm, however as managers you can change that as you see fit. Some weekends, you won't make it back inside your house until after 10pm at night.
What will you be doing? Essentially, you have only two main directives. Make the park look good, and make sure the campers are happy! But there is a lot that goes in to completing those two objectives successfully.
- Spring cleanup and getting the water systems and bathrooms cleaned and operational
- Taking reservations and learning how to use the computer software
- Maintaining equipment and machinery
- Delivering firewood
- Cleaning bathrooms. Several times daily
- Checking in campers
- Landscaping, looking after flowers and gardens, cutting grass
- Collecting and sorting recycling
- Security and making sure people (and their dogs) follow the rules
- Supervise other employees and the front gate
Among other things.
While they are looking for a manager couple, they will entertain the idea of a single person. We think that the job is more suited to a couple.
How much money will you make? Well that's a big variable because it depends partly on how much work you want to do yourself versus directing other people to do the work. We managed to get things done this year with only one other part time employee and a workcamping couple at the front gate. Past managers have chosen to have as many as four part time employees, while they supervised. So the park board is open to different options.
While we are under an employment contract, I can't tell you how much we made. However, I can tell you that while searching for similar jobs in Saskatchewan, I found that the pay scale ranges from $5,000 to close to $9,000 per month for the two of you. One of the reasons we chose Saskatchewan to work over any other province is quite simply the pay is higher. They also pay approximately 6% provincially mandated vacation pay on top of your salary.
No experience necessary, however the two of you really need to be a Jack and Jill of all trades. You need to be cheerful with the people, and handy with the park.
Yes, you need to be able to legally work in Canada.

And in Canada, a great deal on a 12 volt fan...
12 volt RV fan
The accommodations are also included correct?
ReplyDeleteEssentially, that's correct. However that's a little up in the air right now because the house trailer that we've been living in has seen better days. It's up for sale and hopefully will be removed by spring. If the new managers have their own RV to live in, they will be supplied with a full hookup site. If not, other arrangements will be made.
DeleteSounds like a great opportunity for the right couple, good luck in finding someone.
ReplyDeleteIt is not us that is finding someone but park itself, we are just helping them get the word out there.
DeleteWe are interested in this position...We are retired and have an rv... We are very skilled in all things that are mentioned in your ad...
ReplyDeleteWell, then you better send in your application/resume to the park board to the email address that Kevin included at the bottom of the post.
