Back in Ottawa...

Well, we drove back to Ruth's father's place in Galetta (Ottawa) yesterday. From Hamilton, it was 500 kms (310 miles) which is far more than we typically like to drive in a day. But, we took a bit of a different route because we had a craving for Thai food!

Proof that you can justify anything you want!

Here's our route...

500 kms (310 miles)

We left Hamilton around 9:00am so that morning rush hour traffic through Toronto would be pretty much over. Still, that whole area from Hamilton through the other side of Toronto is so congested, it is not a pleasant drive. We can't figure how people can live there and put up with that. But, each to their own, of course.

We were headed to Kingston to go to the Wok-In Thai Restaurant.

We lived in Kingston for a few months back in 2010, and that little hole-in-the-wall restaurant was the best food going, and at very reasonable prices. Sure enough, it was the same couple running the place. It's just a two person operation, sort of cafeteria style. They make the best food...

Big plate of pad thai.

We ordered two dishes between the three of us. And even that was almost too much food! The pad thai was $12.50, and the curry plate was $12.00. With expensive Ontario taxes, the bill was $28 CAD ($22 USD). No tip required because it's a kind of a cafeteria style place. Delicious, and we're glad we made the detour!

From there, we took the back roads up to Galetta. The route from Kingston to Perth is the same drive I used to do when I had my medical courier job for a year or so back then. So I enjoyed seeing the scenery again along that route.

Ruth took some photos out the window along the way. Unfortunately, she didn't know that she had a fingerprint on the lens!

Today, we're taking off to Ottawa to do some running around. Sherman's new brake master cylinder has arrived, so we'll drop that off at the mechanics and see how the progress is going on everything else. We miss our motorhome!

  1. That food looks seriously worth the detour. So hard to find decent restaurants

    1. It was definitely worth the detour and still as good now as it was 6 or 7 years ago.

  2. Great foliage shots. Can't see any fingerprints, good job Ruth.

When Colin has a job in Vancouver he will get up at 3AM and drive 257miles, do the full day of work and drive the 257 miles back often getting in around 10PM and then he is off again at 7AM the next morning to do a full day local job. You do what you have to do.

    1. Thanks Contessa.

We definitely couldn't handle Colin's job, that would just be way too much for us to do in one day. I am glad that Colin gets the winter to relax after having to deal with days like that.

    1. I sent Hilton a message saying that we were sorry that we didn't have time to stop and met with them but we had my dad with us and by that time we were just wanting to get back to his house after a busy weekend away.
