Checked in!

Received the notification from Air Canada first thing this morning to do the online check in for our flight to Barbados early Wednesday morning. Very early.

Of course flying from Ottawa, you almost always have to connect in either Montreal or Toronto. This time, we're headed back to Toronto again. So in order to get there in time for our 8:15am departure from Toronto to Barbados, we have to take the first flight out of Ottawa to Toronto.

That one leaves at 5:35am!

It's only a 20 minute drive to get from our daughter's house to Ottawa airport, and of course at that hour there won't be any traffic. But still, we're going to have to leave the house around 3:15am tomorrow morning! Silly o'clock!

But it's all worth it. The high daily temperature in Barbados is 29C (84F) and the low is 26C (79F).  Every day. Don't even need to bring a sweater! (Yes mom, I will anyhow!)

Barbados flight route.

We'll try and update you again tomorrow morning during our layover in Toronto, but we may not have all that much time. We'll see! Otherwise, the next time you hear from us might be on the island.

A few pics from the last couple of days...

Granddaughter Sadie cracks us up! She is too funny.

Sadie, coloring with great-grandpa.

Cameron. Hard to get him to smile for the camera. He's at that age, I guess.

Son in law Justin, checking out the boards for Sherman's new dinette table.

That's all for now!

Top quality cutting board... normally sells for between $100 and $130...

And in Canada...

  1. I like the look of Justin's shop, especially the lumber storage rack. I don't have the room, except up in the loft of the shed, which isn't exactly handy. His stereo looks to be of a similar vintage to mine as well...
I not so fondly remember those early, early morning flights out of Toronto when we had the place in Puerto Rico. Oy. To get a connecting flight in Newark or Chicago, there was no other way. Maybe you'll sleep on the plane??

    1. Justin has the shop set up nicely and he likes to keep it clean. He is constantly on the look out for additional equipment and tools as well.

We don't mind doing connections but it is definitely easier if we don't have to do the connections through the States. We don't normally sleep on the plane but you never know!

    1. That old stove, really isn't an "old" stove. It was a new stove back in the 80's. My mum did a lot of cooking on it and it gets used a lot in the winter to heat up the downstairs of the house.

  3. I know that silly o'clock feeling. We will be 48 hours behind you, flying out at 6AM Friday. Only we are heading to -8C (: Have a good flight.

    1. I like the temperatures we are heading to rather than the one you are heading to. It makes waking up early much more worth it. ;-)

  4. This must be the week--we leave the house at 4AM tomorrow too, heading to a Boston-to-Tampa flight. New England weather is about to go downhill, so the timing's perfect.
Have a great time; we were there so long ago that all I remember is left-hand driving!

    1. We were saying the same thing about our timing being perfect. It is starting to get cooler here and more rain. Enjoy Florida!

  5. That is an early start, but the destination is worth it. Safe travels and have a wonderful time in Barbados.

    1. It is all worth it, if it means that you are traveling to somewhere interesting. We will keep an eye on your blog because India is somewhere that we want to go to as well.

  8. You two are going to love Barbados. Dominican Republic not so much; told so many times to watch my purse and carry-on items very carefully (a lot of snatch and runs); economic situation very bad when we were there. However, it may be better now as some textile industries have moved there and given people more jobs.

Sadie could make it in the television media industry with her cute expressions and radiant smile while coloring with grandpa. Cameron is growing up so fast.

    1. We been to Dominican Republic 3 times and had a great time and never had a problem but like any country you always need to be aware of your surroundings. Pick pocketing along with grab and runs can happen anywhere and not always in poorer economic countries. We are looking forward to our time in Barbados. :-)

Yes, Sadie can certainly ham it up for the camera and she sure does have a beautiful smile. We find it hard to believe that Cameron is already 6 1/2 and very smart, he is doing really well at school.
