Planning for Barbados

Nine days from now, we will arrive on the southeastern Caribbean island of Barbados for a nineteen day stay. We haven't really got too much planned, because this is supposed to be a relaxing "vacation".

But most of you know us better than that!

We were visiting with my mom over the weekend and she showed us some photos of when they took a family vacation to Barbados at Christmas time in 1984. Ruth and I didn't go because we had just been married that year and had already taken time off work.

It turns out that quite a few of the photos she showed us are in places that should be fairly recognizable to most people who live on the island. So, you remember the fun we had in Europe this past winter matching up old photos from when my father had been there many years ago? We're going to do the same thing in Barbados!

My mother and father in Barbados in 1984.

This weekend when I'm away with my guy friends, Ruth will go up to her dad's and scan the worthwhile photos so that we have digital copies with us when we're there. Then, we'll go around the island finding all of these same spots so we can take before and after pictures.

So, that will be something that will keep us occupied while we're there.

Otherwise, we do have some things planned. Most of it will be simply exploring the island, but we've also got some fun things planned. We've also arranged a tour of the luxury, couples only, all inclusive Sandals Barbados so that we can see how the upper class live while on vacation!

We're also going to be doing lots of hiking. There a free guided hikes once a week put on by the Barbados National Trust, so we hope to go on three of those.

And, we're going to meet up with some blog readers while in Barbados. How cool is that??

  2. They say "A change is a good as a rest". So even if you're active in the sunny south, it'll seem like a true vacation.

Always good to have a 'plan'. Our plan when we were in Maui was to try and find a new beach every day. Ran out of beaches. But then we knew which ones we'd be willing to go back to.

    1. Totally agree and with us, we find hiking very calming and good for the soul so even doing that we will still be having a relaxing time.

We think that we will even find time to relax on a beach or two.
