The batteries will do for another six months or so...

Definitely a nicer day yesterday, with the temperature going up to about 63F (17C). We had already decided to make Monday a non-driving day, and just relax at the Jeff Busby Campground. We took our time getting outside, and finally went out to enjoy the day at about 11:00am.

Not many places to hike in this park, so we did the same route we had done on Sunday, but in reverse. Because we needed some exercise!

We got back to Sherman and had some lunch, and then I put on my work clothes and puttered around the motorhome checking to make sure that everything is in decent shape.

I topped up the water in our almost 8 year old Trojan batteries. From reading other people's experiences, RV batteries are likely to need replacing at around five years old.

And ours certainly are not in "tip top" shape, however we can easily do two days and two nights parked in the shade with very little sun hitting our solar panels. And that's with near freezing overnight temperatures. So we will do fine for our three months in Mexico.

We'll think about getting them replaced next April while heading north back to Canada.

I got out my grandmother's old quilt and did some inspection underneath the motorhome. Everything looks fine, but the inner rear tires will need replacing in April as well. At that time, I'll take the front ones which are only a year old, and put them on the inner rear and put the brand new ones on the front.

After that, we decided to go for a bike ride. Because we needed some more exercise!

The entire 444 mile length of the Natchez Trace Parkway is a designated bicycle route. If they choose to do so, bicycles are legally able to take up the whole lane. We chose to ride at the side and we noticed that the very few other bicycles we see also do that. Makes sense.

As we exited the park, we saw this group of feral cats.

Once again, very little traffic.

We rode with our "don't shoot me" shirts on!

Back at Sherman, we sat outside and had a beer and a glass of wine and played a few rounds of backgammon. Nice relaxing day.

Moving on down the road again today. No idea how far we're going.

  1. Nice to have those relaxing days, we are good at that, after a few miles of walking every day. Our batteries are about 6 years old and going strong, trojans of course. Keep getting that warmer weather.

    1. Yes, it is nice to have them every once in a while. However even for us a relaxing day almost always involves a good hike or two.

    1. Glad you said affordable because they certainly aren't cheap yet. They are higher than what we were expecting but definitely less than those back in Canada. :-)
