I noticed that Al and Kelly over at The Bayfield Bunch got hit with a freak snowstorm while making their way through Texas to Arizona. Abnormally cold winter so far in the entire state of Texas. That's the problem with wintering in the southern U.S.. You never know from one year to the next if it's going to be Texas, Arizona, or Florida that gets hit with the cold. Always seems to be one of them.
We can't wait to get to Mexico!
Anyhow, we bundled up and went out for a long walk to explore Lake Corpus Christi State Park.
That's Ruth in the blue jacket with her hood up!
It's a pretty park.
They have some rental shelters with a picnic table, twin beds, and an air conditioner.
It would be baking hot here in the summer.
The old park pavilion, built by the C.C.C. between 1933 and 1934.
Ruth!
There are some big homes on the other side of the lake.
Us!
I had to really move to get there in 10 seconds!
There's a really nicely done new bird viewing blind that they built.
Woody Woodpecker.
Roadrunner.
A group of 7 deer wandered into the park!
Hey, there's Sherman!
Sherman, in his spot.
Whenever we go for a walk, I set my Geo Tracker GPS app. It tells us exactly how far we went, as well as a bunch of interesting, useless information!
Our route!
We did 10.05 kms (6.25 miles) in two hours and six minutes.
We're heading down to the border today, to Falcon State Park. There's supposed to be a boondocking area right close to the park. If it's no good, we'll just stay in the park itself.
See you there!

Great price on a nice drone quadcopter with HD camera...
And in Canada...
Driving to Denver from Denton yesterday, overcast and temps in the 20's. Hit the New Mexico border and the skies suddenly cleared. Temps close to 60 near Raton. Texas has been downright dreary the past two weeks. Cozumel Saturday, phew. Safe travels!
ReplyDeleteYep, for the most part Texas has been pretty dreary this last little while. We did manage to hit a few nice days though. Mexico is definitely looking good, just over a week now so not too much longer to wait.
DeleteI envy you two, enjoy that nice sunny weather and have a drink for us!
Most of Canada is now in a deep freeze... We miss Mexico too, hopefully next winter we'll make it there.
ReplyDeleteIt sure is, so we really can't complain. Where we are is way better than back home! Still if we had it our way we would already be in Mexico enjoying the warm weather and sunshine. Soon, very soon though.
DeleteHope you and Shelagh are all toasty and warm in your new house.
I had a stupid idea of going home for Christmas. Cant wait to get back on the plane to guadalajara on Riiday
DeleteNice C.C.C. - looks in pretty good shape considering how old it is. I’m going to check that Geo Tracker GPS app out. Looks interesting. Barry says TKS for the deer picture!!
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful pavilion! There has been some fairly recent restoration work done to the building in some areas but overall it looks to be in it's original shape. It would be a lovely location for a wedding.
DeleteGlad Barry enjoyed the deer picture! :-)
I was looking at that boondocking spot outside Falcon State Park. Let us know what it is like.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to be pretty good. There are other vehicles here but we found a good spot off by ourselves and surprisingly enough we are totally level. We will have a better look around the area today.
DeleteIt is chilly in Florida now too, getting colder next week, and Arizona has been cold. Just a crazy winter here in the US so far. Wish we were joining you on the way to Mexico! Safe travels!
ReplyDeleteThis is why we say to get consistently good weather you need to head into Mexico. And we can't wait, if we were going to be going in on our own like normal, we would have been there in November!
DeleteHope things don't get too cold for you!
Sherman looks to be enjoying himself. All of that walking must have warmed you up a bit. An interesting bird blind, and the pavilion is very nice. Great pic of the deer as well. Travel safe.
ReplyDeleteYes, we were definitely good and warm while we were walking.
DeleteWe have now been to a couple of parks here in Texas that have these bird blinds up. In front of the blind they had some water for the birds to drink or wash in and some bird seed for them. I am sure in the busier parts of the year it is probably a popular spot.
Hi Kevin, Ruth. Be happy to be there in Texas. Just watched the news: Today Ottawa was the coldest capital City in the World. Interesting fact: Ottawa right now is colder than Antarctica!!! ( I have to admit to be jealous. )
ReplyDeleteWe saw that news as well! It doesn't surprise us at all. So glad that we are down here and not up there. And the nice thing about down here is that when it is cold, it isn't usually cold for long.
DeleteIf you are up there in it, then you need to quickly book yourself a ticket down south, somewhere where it is really warm and sunny. :-)
