Meeting our Mexico RV caravan group

We had a couple of stops to make yesterday morning before heading to Mission West RV Resort in Palmview, Texas.

We were looking for an old steel cookie sheet. Yes, we could have gone to Walmart to buy a new one, but for what we were using it for, it didn't make sense to buy new. I found a goodwill store along our route, and we stopped in there to see what there was.

The store wasn't well organized, and all of the kitchen and miscellaneous stuff was stored on top of each one of the clothing racks, and so you had to wander each aisle looking on top of the clothing racks for what we needed. Do you think we could find a steel cookie sheet? Nope. Did pick up a three ring binder for $0.99 to keep our road logs in for the Mexico caravan trip.

Next stop was a Dollar Tree store to pick up a couple of things. Wouldn't you know, they had exactly what I needed. Not really a cookie sheet, but a small baking pan for a buck.

Next stop, to fill Sherman's fuel tank with cheap Texas gas. It's not as cheap near the border any more now that Mexico's fuel prices are higher than the U.S., but we topped things up at $2.30 a gallon ($0.78 per liter CAD).

Then, we headed to the RV Park.

A beautiful day.

It appears that the bad weather is finally behind us. Yesterday was beautiful, and they're calling for a high of 67F (19C) today. The forecast is for improving temperatures right through to Sunday, with decently sunny skies. Finally.

Including ourselves, we will be 12 rigs touring Mexico. There were already four of our group here when we arrived, and four more showed up as the day went on. Everybody is scheduled to show up before 4:00pm today.

We had a bunch of Amazon packages waiting for us in the office. Some of the stuff is for Mexican friends who live outside Mexico City and have just bought themselves a travel trailer. They wanted some RV accessories that aren't available in Mexico and asked if we could bring them down for them.

And the other packages were our new bedding! New cotton sheets and a duvet cover for our new silk filled duvet. We didn't cheap out on any of this and bought good quality stuff that should keep us comfortable for years.

Woody the woodpecker in a tree outside our door.

Now, I suppose you're wondering why I needed an old steel cookie sheet.

Well, these new GMRS radios that we're using for this trip have an antenna with a magnetized base. Apparently the ground plane effect isn't as important with GMRS radios as it is with a CB, however I have read mixed opinions on that, and I don't know enough about it to have an opinion myself. However, because Sherman has an all fiberglass body, there was nowhere to mount the magnet base for the antenna.

So I bought a the baking pan and attached it to the roof with RV roof caulking!  It won't go anywhere, and now I have somewhere to stick the antenna.

At 4:00pm, we had booked the small meeting room for happy hour for our group here at the "resort". We've got the room booked at 4:00pm today and tomorrow as well where we'll combine our meetings with happy hour at that time. We've got a lot to go over with the group in preparation for our trip and I'm sure they'll have lots of questions. That gives us all tomorrow to do any last minute things.

Getting to know each other.

Everyone is very excited about our upcoming adveture, and so are we!

If we could send you some warm weather we certainly would! You must now be getting that cold front that we had a few days ago. We are sure it won't last too long.

    1. Thank you Salma. Our trip is over now but it was a fun one. Everyone got to see some beautiful and interesting places on this tour. I hope you continue to read the other posts to see how the tour went and the places that we visited.

We will probably do it again but we haven't made the final decision yet. The company does have tours lined up, whether we do one or not. Here is their website www.mexicorvbuddies.com.
