3 Outdoor Adventures in Wrightsville Beach

Wrightsville Beach is a paradise for lovers of water activities and outdoor adventures. It's got water sports like surfing and paddleboarding along with scenic cruises along the waterways around the island. There are fishing spots along the piers and charter boats that go further out onto the ocean for deep water sportfishing. It's a small town full of seemingly endless outdoor adventures on the water. Following are three outdoor adventures that are not to be missed while on a trip to Wrightsville Beach.

Stand Up Paddleboarding

Stand up paddleboarding (SUP) is a relatively new activity in the area and there are a few outfitters that cater to the sport. The outfitters teach you how to handle the board and paddle so you can take advantage of the many kinds of activities offered. Take a guided tour of the waterways to see the local flora and fauna along with learning about conservation efforts. Or take a trip out onto the waters at night with boards lighted from underneath with LEDs and see the waterways from a whole new perspective. And if you don't want to fall out of your yoga routine, take yoga on a SUP! Check out one of the many Wrightsville Beach hotels through Hotel Planner to stay close to your favorite activity.

Surfing

The combination of warm waters with the mild temperatures of Wrightsville means that it's a great place for surfing. Beginners and experienced surfers alike are going to find the surf accommodating. Those who have never surfed before can take lessons at one of the many surf schools located on the shoreline. More experienced surfers who require some gear for their outings can get their needs fulfilled at the local surf shops.

Surfing conditions vary along the stretch of shoreline that makes up Wrightsville Beach. The larger waves are found at the southern end of the beach while the northern end is good for beginners. As to be expected, the southern end with the larger waves is more crowded with people looking to catch their next ride.

Boating and Kayaking

The waters off the beach are perfect for sailing while the inlets are best suited for kayaking. If you're feeling adventurous, take a sailing lesson to learn how to handle a J/22 single-mast sailboat. You can also get certified in basic Keel Boat Sailing and basic Coastal Cruising so you can handle the sailboat with confidence.
Want to take it slow and see the beauty of the area? Take a kayak tour with one of the many outfits in Wrightsville Beach. Rent a kayak and take a self-guided tour of the sound. Bring along a cooler full of food so you and your crew can stop at a beach for lunch and enjoy the scenery.

Wrightsville Beach is a paradise for those who enjoy the outdoors and all it has to offer. Slow down and enjoy the beauty of nature for a while at this well-kept secret on the Atlantic seaboard.
